1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate Description

1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate – VINZARBA5647H1045283

For your consideration is my remarkably clean 1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Graduate.Wearing just over a scant 62,000 miles, this car has been our sunny weekend errand-runner. While I had planned to keep the car indefinitely, we have recently inherited another roadster with significant sentimental value, so rather than let this car sit outside and/or go to waste, we've decided to sell it. I have 2 factory key sets, an owner's manual, assorted repair and enthusiast books, and a number of service records in a binder from the previous owner as well as the relatively few records from my ownership. While not a show car, it is definitely a car you can be proud to drive, enjoy, and bring out to Cars & Coffee, but not be afraid to rack up the miles on. I can't think of a time that someone *didn't* stop me to talk about it at a fill-up - assuming there was someone else at the station!

Among the key major service items completed on this car are a cylinder head rebuild, suspension bushings and performance springs, a new stayfast canvas convertible top (less than a year ago - and better than the vinyl top that come on Graduates), and an inline fuel pump fuse. The oil, oil filter, and air filter were changed about 100 miles ago.

On the inside, this car is in very nice original condition. The black carpet is in fine condition, and the car comes with new black and red floormats. The tan vinyl seats are rip free showing only the slightest patina of age. The dashboard has a couple of cracks typical of southern sun-exposed Alfas, but I did add a molded dash cover which is essentially invisible to me. There are no foul odors – there doesn’t appear to have ever been any smoking or leaks inside. The car is equipped with air conditioning, and everything appears functional, but it blows warm. Per my mechanic, it does not show any evidence of having been converted to r134, and I opted not to do that given my limited nice-day use of the car.The car just passed the stringent Virginia safety inspection last month. The aftermarket Sony CD/radio turns on and off properly, and the car just got a NOS manual Alfa telescoping antenna to replace the seized original.

Outside, the car is remarkably straight. The car was repainted due to sun fade around 2010, and the color matches the original factory finish beautifully. Having spent most of its life in the South and then garaged, there is no sign of rust or rust repair anywhere on the car, and no sign or report of prior damage. The doors, hood, and trunk all shut with the appropriate thunk. All of the lenses are in very good, clear condition. The steel wheels retain their stanless hub caps and trim rings, and wear Pirelli all-season performance tires with a good amount of tread on them. There is a spare tire in the trunk along with a complete tool kit and jack. Glass is all original and crack-free.

The motor starts easily and settles to a very smooth idle. The manual steering functions properly, and the 5-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly with none of the dreaded 2nd gear crunch. When the car sits for an extended period of time, there is some seepage from the transmission as well as a squeak from the right rear wheel. The brakes are in good condition and do not pull. In all, having owned two earlier Spica-injected Spiders, I have found this Bosch-injected car simply a pleasure to own and drive.

Please keep in mind that this is not a new vehicle and that it is sold as-is, where-is with nowarrantees implied, stated, or otherwise intended. You are bidding to own this vehicle, not to come and look at itafter the auction has ended. I encourage bidders to come andsee the car if possible. You are welcome to have the car inspected at your expense prior to the conclusion of the auction. Remember, my descriptions are based on my knowledge ofthe car. I cannot say that it is without flaws. I don't care what classic car you are looking at, it will have flaws. I can assure you that this is a superb car that you can cherish for years to come.

A non-refundable deposit of $1000 must be sent by PayPal within 24 hours of the conclusion of the auction. The balance must be paid within seven days of the end of the auction or upon pick-up of the car, whichever is earlier. The balance of the purchase price may NOT be made by PayPal. I will accept cash, bank wire transfer,or cashier's check only. Purchaser is responsible for pick-up or all costs related to the shipping of the car. There is a collector-car lien (J.J. Best Banc) on the car which must be settled with proceeds of the sale prior to transfer of title.

PLEASE BE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THAT YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR BID. IF YOU HAVE ZERO OR NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, YOU MUST CONTACT ME THROUGH EBAY PRIOR TO BIDDING. I WILL CANCEL YOUR BID IF YOU DO NOT.
