1970 AMC Javelin Mark Donohue edition Description

Proudly offered for your consideration is a 1970 AMC Javelin SST Mark Donohue edition. Freshly out of long storage (last on the road in 1992), this Javelin is a fantastic find. It is nicely optioned and is a great color combination (Matador Red with black interior). Recently purchased from the step-son of the second owner who bought it used back in 1971; rumor has it he picked this over a '69 Trans Am that was available on the same car lot. Anyways, this Donohue was loaded with options including the top 390 engine, automatic transmission, twin-grip rear, 140mph speedo / 8k rpm tachometer, air conditioning, tinted glass, power steering and disc brakes, radio, etc etc. It was repainted long ago; somewhere along the 1980's. Originally it had a white reverse C-stripe on it as there are stripe remnants in the door jambs. The car is straight and true and previous owner confirmed no accident history. Looking the car over close I can confirm all panels appear original - both front fenders remain welded on the car adjacent to the doors plus the drivers door is original with the correct VIN and data plates affixed. Core supports are straight too; looks like original radiator is present (Blackstone Feb '70 build). Looks like all original glass as-well; Corning safety windshield and PPG elsewhere. 1970 was the last year of the straight fender Javelins and there were many unique, 1-year only parts including the hood, grille, dash, a bunch of trim, etc most all of which are in quite exceptional shape on this car. The car is a definite survivor. Having said this, the car is a rather big project. The biggest bummer is that the original 390 engine was replaced circa the 80's with a 290 which appears to be seized today. The original M12 transmission appears to be present. The car has some rust but is by no means a rust bucket. So the car is not functional as it is and it needs to be completely gone through mechanically. Rear drums were pulled off and it rolls pretty free. The tires are junk; several lose air quickly. As I mentioned, the car had air conditioning originally but the car is missing some components including compressor and condenser no doubt discarded during the engine swap ( I can supply a used condenser and compressor if desired). Interior looks all original except for an aftermarket radio. Has the correct Rim-blow steering wheel. Dash is extremely nice. If you are looking for a decent AMC project this is worth a serious look. I uploaded 24 pictures here for your review and have 230 available through a Dropbox link that I can supply to interested parties. I tried to photograph everything to avoid any potential surprises. I consider this a great project car with a ton of potential. 390 AMX's are rather commonplace but a factory 390 Javelin is pretty unique. If you are unfamiliar with Mark Donohue or this special edition made in his honor and to homologate the rear spoiler for racing, do a quick Google search. Feel free to call or text me with any questions. My name is Steve and my number is 585-329-9362. No doubt some will feel this car is or could be a Donohue clone as it can easily be done. Unfortunately I do not have any paperwork to authenticate but again last owner confirms it is legit and he bought it when it was a year old. Furthermore, the rear trunk and spoiler certainly appear original and never tampered with and there is no sign of a "Javelin" script emblem on the trunk lid which was standard issue on the other non-Donohue SST '70 Javelins. I'd be happy to personally show the car to any interested parties. I've been buying/selling/collecting AMC's for the past 30+ years and believe me when I tell you that this is a great find and opportunity. I may be able to provide a 390 or 401 engine if desired along with some desirable parts for it (including roof and/or Trans Am replica spoilers) if the price was right but for now just offering what you see here. I may be able to help with transporting too if needed.
