AMC 1972 Gremlin X 304 V8 Super Gremi Hot Rod Show
1972 AMC Gremlin Description
1972 AMC Gremlin X, V8 304, BW T10 4 Speed, 3:73 Rear. Just shy of 47K original miles. Purchased this car out of Montana back in 1996. Had not been driven since 86' when that owners son wiped off a cam lobe. Car was pretty complete, with the biggest part of the grille missing. Car was sold out of Washington State at Rancho AMC in Spokane. Original color was the Surfside Turqouise, which is the light blue on the back of the car. Was originally a 3 speed on the floor car backing the V8, which i changed to a 4 speed during restoration. Original gear was a 3:54, which was also chaged up to the 3:73 and a Mosier mini spool locker. Rear end came equipped with the factory torque links, similiar to the AMX's. I had 12 years in the rotessorie restoration, as the underneath of the car is painted thru with the RWB paint scheme. All nuts, bolts, mechanical components are new. Original H code V8 304 was rebuilt(.40 over to a 311) and comes with the Edelbrock R4B intake and Valve Covers. Borg Warner T10 Transmission was also gone thru. I really wanted to give the car a hard 70's period correct look along with keeping it in line with a factory racer, as seen with the custom diamond shape polished stainless steel metal work, vintage MT slicks on chrome reverse wheels, skinny fenton aluminum slots up front, Big Daddy Don Garlits Stars and Stripes Tach (actually autographed by BD himself), old school Grant 500 steering wheel painted to match car, just some of the features of this car. The Super Gremlin idea came to me from a local AMC Dealership that was doing a lot to promote AMC Racing back then, Dick Holland Motors. When the 304 Gremlins came out in 72, the team at Holland came up with a special "Dealer Installed" Package for them and dubbed them the "Super Gremi". A beefed up version of the Gremlin was created and placed over the X in the stripes on the quarter panels, rear tailpanel, and glove box. Super Gremi chrome sticker also went on the rear tail panel, as seen on my car . They would then typically have an outside muffler shop put Thrush Sidewinder sidepipes on them, or throw on an Edelbrock R4B intake and Valve Covers in house to pep them up.I was able to secure a set of their rare sticker kits for this Gremlin a few years back, when Dave Holland was going thru some stuff after his father Dick had passed and discovered them. i was able to dig up the license plate frames from a local garage sale, and the rair jacket from a local friend of Dick's. The ram air is somewhat functional and the air cleaner base is off a 71' SC/360 Hornet. Highly regarded Doan Upholstery here in Mansfield done the interior.Car came equipped with drum brakes andpower steering. I built the car to drive, soit is not a 100 point show car, but pretty damn nice.Have only put less then 1000 miles on it since done in 2008. I have only driven car somewhat locally, 50 miles or less, as it is a bear to navigate with the current slicks and skinnys on it, a price of paying for the vintage 70's look i want, lol. Most of the pictures are from the Cleveland Piston Powered Auto Rama that I trailered it to back in March of this year. The glass is the only thing that wasn't replaced, and shows typical of 44 years of age, with some lightscratches. The lettering is all vinyl, and it does have some custom pinstriping. Paint stands tall. I have never seen a car get attention the way this does. I have and have had some rare muscle and hot rods that didn't get half as much. I could go on and on about this car, but it speaks for itself. Serious buyers, please feel free to contact me with questions 419-566-5879. Car is also for sale locally, taking offers, so i reserve right to end auction.
