1977 AMC AMX AMX Description

Up for auction is a one year, AMC Hornet AMX with 304 V-8, automatic, and PS, AM/FM stereo, bucket seats, console, floor shift, gauge package. I added an Edelbrock four barrel manifold and 500 CFM carb three years ago. A little history: The AMX was a two seat sports car in 1968, 1969 and 1970. In 1971 it became a trim package on the Javelin through 1974 when the AMX name disappeared. It was revived in 1977 as a trim package on the Hornet hatchback. The AMX package included the wheel flares, rear window louvers, special interior trim on the door panels and roof mounted Targa band. The wheels are standard AMC style wheels and were an option on that model. The car runs great and is very reliable. It needs the carpet replaced and the rear door panels re-attached. Along with the car goes many new and NOS parts as well as quite a few used parts. I also bought a rebuilt PB booster and new master cylinder to add PB to the car. Some of the NOS parts are door pulls, door pouches, driver's side taillight frame, passenger's side taillight, grille. Some of the new parts include reproduced set of Volcano caps, master cylinder, box of oil filters, solenoid, oil pump, air filter, complete set of window sweeps, heater core, complete set of hood and trunk graphics. I have the original Blackstone radiator, a used black out grille, steering wheel. horn button, used taillight frame, complete set of extra wheel flares, V-8 valve covers, a box of extra gauges, gauge clusters, the original AMC alternator rebuilt to factory standards, overflow tanks, wiper bottle, power brake booster, and an extra set of AMX specific rear door panel without speaker cutouts. I am sure that I have forgotten a part or tow but anything that is Hornet related goes with the car. While up on a lift at the beginning of the summer, the mechanic told me there was w ire hanging down. I looked and it was the back up light/neutral safety switch wire that had come off of the switch in the tranny. I cleaned it and reinstalled it but while I was under there I saw that the inner rockers had rusted through at the very front of the rocker. If memory serves me, the rust is about an inch or so high and maybe a five or six inches long. Now these cars had Zeibart installed at the factory and you can see the plugs with the name Ziebart on them in the rocker. Apparently they didn't spray it forward in the rocker. While under there I gave the car a once over and saw no other rust. I do not have access to a lift nor can I get down on the ground to get underside photos.
