1985 AMC Eagle Sport
1985 AMC Other Description
1985 AMC Eagle Sport
I'm looking to sell my 1985 AMC Eagle Sport. I got it in mid-April after looking around for awhile but I got a deal on a YJ that I couldn't pass up, so this has to go. Very solid survivor with just over 62,000 original miles. This is a very solid car that's been maintained over the years and is in much better shape than most.
The good:
- Runs excellent and does not use any oil. Transmission shifts as it should with no hesitation, flare between gears, or any other issues. Drives smooth around town and will do 70+ on the freeway without a problem.
- Brakes are fine and the tires (20575R15) are nearly new. Master cylinder was replaced by the previous owner.
- All glass is good and all lights/turn signals work with the exception of the license plate light.
- No frame issues and the body/paint is in very nice condition. Shines up well!
- Very nice interior
The not so good:
- There's an oil drip when parked, possible the main or pinion seal.
- Minor rust starting behind/near some of the plastic body cladding (see pics).
- Other bumps and bruises consistent with a 32 year old car - there are a couple of spots on the body, it's missing a couple of emblems, and the eyebrow over the drivers side headlight has a chunk out of it.
- There is a minor exhaust leak close to the muffler in the rear. It's not loud by any means but I can notice it.
- The climate controls are a little sticky. Everything seems to work but it's hard to move the levers.
- Oil pressure gauge works when it wants to.
- Small tear in the driver's seat side bolster.
- The interior hood release is finicky (common issue) and the hood hinges need adjusted. The hood latches closed but it can be popped back up by hand. It stays latched so there's no issue while driving, but it doesn't sit flush (see pics).
Overall it's in very nice shape and has clearly been taken care of. It isn't perfect and there are items to nitpick for sure, but these things weren't perfect when brand new! If you've looked around for Eagles then you know some of the common condition issues. This is the third one that I've owned and it's by far the nicest. I'd really like to keep it as it's getting hard to find nice ones, but I don't have the room for two. Perfectly capable as a daily driver or just to run around. It gets plenty of attention and thumbs up! Great candidate for a mild lift or just run it as-is. Since I get this question a lot, I wouldn't have any hesitation driving it a significant distance. I got it from a seller in Missouri and was prepared to drive it back to Ohio. You would want all of the normal road trip supplies but that's true of any older car.
Sold as-is, no warranty expressed or implied. I am not a mechanic and have described this to the best of my ability. If you have questions, don't assume anything - please ask! Bidders in the area are more than welcome to come drive and check it out in person. I reserve the right to end the auction early due to local sale. The car must be picked up from Worthington, Ohio 43085 (about 10 minutes north of Columbus) within 7 days of auction's end. I am happy to work with a shipper but all costs and arrangements (including quotes) are the sole responsibility of the buyer. Full payment (cash, cashier's check, or other certified funds) due at time of pickup. Clear Ohio title ready to go and I can assist with having it notarized.
Thanks for looking!
