1966 AMC Rambler American Description

1966 AMC Rambler American Rogue 1966 AMC Rambler American Rogue
with 232 In Line Six and Automatic Transmission
DESCRIPTION:

Up for auction is my 1966 AMC Rambler American Rogue. Has a 232 cu in Inline Six; automatic transmission; power steering; standard shoe type brakes; Landau top in beautiful condition; bench type seat with a fold down center console that makes the front seats almost into bucket type. The exterior paint is original; the interior is all original; and the engine would have been all original except a few years ago I had an electonic ignition installed, which, by the way, has improved the reliability and performance of this car 100%. The seats are in great shape, no tears or stains; overhead very clean and undamaged; carpeting is clean and in good condition except on the driver's side where there are two worn and frayed spots, and on the passenger side there are two worn spots. The radio powers on, and the speaker works (I tested it), but can't get any reception. Could just be the antenna isn't connected correctly. I'm no electronics guy so I'm in the dark here.

The car has 111,400 miles on it. I bought it in 2004 when it had 93,187 miles. So I've put about 18,000 miles on it in 13 years. It uses absolutely NO oil. I have never had to add oil to it between oil changes. The transmission was rebuilt in 2005 at 94,425 miles. A new windshield was installed in 2005. I don't know the history of the car other than it was a one owner driver garaged in Portland OR, purchased from Wentworth AMC new.

There is one small dent on the trunk lid toward the window which is hard to see unless you're looking for it (see pictures below). No other dents. The paint is in good shape except for one spot on the front left fender. It looks like somebody splashed battery acid since the area affected is directly across from the battery (see picture below).

The car has been very reliable- starts right up even in freezing temperatures. The heater and defroster are terrific - they will have you defogged and warm within a minuter or two.

Besides the regular oil change/lube and tuneup maintenance I've done on this car, the following is a list of the major repairs/upgrades I have done or had done:

  • 94,425 Rebuilt transmission
  • 96,833 New starter
  • 98,942 Replaced timing gear and timing chain
  • Replaced all belts
  • Replaced heater hoses
  • Two new U-joints
  • New water pump
  • 100,833 New coil; Installed an electronic ignition
  • 110,358 New battery

All the tires have good tread on them, and they are in good shape - no cracks or damage. The spare is very good. And I have all four of the original tires that came with the car, having stored them in my garage. I wlll include them with the sale.

The head lights, tail lights, parking lights, opera lights, instument panel light, and turn signals all work as they should. High/low beam switch is on the floor, left foot operated.

I have looked all over and under the car for rust and have yet to find anything of any significance - no rotted out areas of rust or anything close to it. All receipts that for any and all work I have had done will be included.

This car is a joy to drive. It corners great, and rides very smooth. I had a 1967 T-Bird years ago and this Rambler rides every bit as nice as that T-Bird. I try to drive it once a week, weather permitting, so it's not like it's been sitting for long periods. I use it. And so I'm selling it as a daily driver. It cruises on the freeway 55-65 mph no problem.

An additional note here that you will get noticed driving this car. Many people will approach you wanting to talk about it, ask questions, and have a closer look. If you end up buying this car just be prepared for that kind of attention.
