1984 AMC Other Limited Description

What you are looking at is an Awesome 1984 AMC Eagle. This was the first crossover vehicle ever to combine a 4wd platform with a passenger car. If you want to turn heads, get thumbs ups on the highway and have endless conversations with strangers, this is the car for you!

This 1984 AMC Eagle has the limited package and features Power windows, power door locks, power seats, Wood grain interior, leather seats, cruise control, A/C, rear defrost, and more! It has the factory optional Tachometer, Air Compressor (that’s right, on board air compressor with accessory hose kit still in the original bag from the factory!) and center gauge cluster featuring clock, oil pressure, amp meter, and vac gauge. Man, this thing was loaded for 1984!

This car has the ever popular 258cuin (4.2L) I6 engine mated to an automatic transmission that shifts as it should. And Select Drive 4wd engages and functions as it should as well. She gets around 21 mpg and still is plenty peppy for her age. Odometer shows just over 141,000 miles.

Lets’s talk about the body. It is finished in a beautiful Autumn Brown Metallic and shows well for her age. There is a small boo-boo on the front right fender, a scrape on the rear bumper and a few normal dings here and there and a couple of small spots where clear coat is lifting around the antenna, windshield, etc. Nothing to cry about though. Title is clean but a few panels are mismatched brown which shows evidence of some repainting here and there. Ok, let’s face it there may not be two panels the same shade of brown on the car but other than the fender, I see no signs of major damage and it still looks nice. Roof is in good shape, it has the awesome factory roof rack and all the chrome looks nice.

Wheels show some oxidation which is nothing uncommon. If I were you I’d look into replacing the tires pretty soon. They have tread but look pretty old. This Eagle lived most of it’s life in Nevada from what I understand before landing in North Carolina. I would say it is 95% rust free. The only rust I can see are two small spots on the right rear passenger door. Nothing bad at all! Frame and undercarriage look clean and tidy looking under there. I have not seen it up on a lift, but I fear no surprises there.

The interior on this car is now laughing matter. It continues the theme of 50 shades of brown. The dash is nice and uncracked, faux woodgrain is nice looking, The rich Corinthian leather front seats show a little wear from 141,00 miles of seat time but are still nice and the back seat I would rate as excellent condition. Carpet is in good shape with again, brown, period correct vinyl Rally floor mats that look like the came straight from the 1984 JC Whitney catalog. The rear cargo area is spotless and has a factory cargo cover that looks as good as the day it was born.

Headliner is sagging in a couple of spots but not falling down on your head or to the point I would have it fixed. Just worth noting. There is an upgraded stereo from the previous owner with aux input that sounds pretty nice, I would have opted for the original factory unit, but they didn’t call and check with me first.

Engine bay looks nice and tidy, Did I mention there is an air compressor under there?? Under the hood has not been cleaned up and looks all original. it does not leak, smoke, use oil, make any weird noises, run hot, or anything of concern. Belts and hoses appear to be in good shape and previous owner replaced the radiator at some point if I remember correct - I believe the recipe is in the glove box. Oh, and so is the owners manual! Oil is due a change soon but still looks clean. I would not hesitate to hop in this car and go anywhere.

Now, remember, this a 1984 American made car with 141,000 miles. It’s not perfect. There are things that do not work. Air does not blow cold - no big surprise there. Cruise control and tachometer do not work. This seems to be true with most Eagles. Power door locks and mirrors are finicky. sometimes they work, sometimes they do not.

So in summary you are looking at a fine example of 1980’s American Motors history. A car that has been driven, used, but not abused. I have kept it garaged since I have owned it and it looks like it has likely been garaged a good portion of it’s life. It is fun to drive and fun to talk about. Everyone loves the Eagle! I have taken it to several car shows and it gets more attention than a Ferrari! Fall in love with your new Eagle today!
