1971 AMC Hornet SC/360
1971 AMC Hornet SC/360 Description
You are bidding on a 1971 AMC SC/360, 4bbl, 4 speed, 3.91 gear car. This car is 1 of 784 produced, with this example being 1 of 306 assembled with the 4bbl and 4 speed combination. Approximately less than 150 total are known to still exist today.
This particular car is a running, driving survivor type car, with only one repaint occurring in the late 70s. All the door jambs, engine compartment, and trunk still wears its original paint. The car also has its original white stripe, as it was masked off when the respray was done. What is NOT correct for this car is its white painted top. This was added when the car was repainted. The car currently has 106,000 miles.
You would be hard pressed to find another SC360 as highly optioned as this one. those options include:
-Go Pack which included the 4 bbl, Ram Air, dual exhaust, tach, handling package, and white letter tires-Twin Grip 3.91 gear differential-Heavy duty cooling package-Power front disc brakes-Power steering-Front and rear bumper guards-luggage rack-Body side moldings-Rim Blow steering wheel-Electric wipers-Low Fuel Warning light-Headlight warning buzzer
This car is a perfect candidate for a concourse style restoration. All the hard to find parts are present, so no searching for the part that will be impossible to find. That being said, this car runs and drives very nice. It goes down the road and stops straight. It runs cool, shifts nice, and everything works on the car, including the ram air system and the tachometer. All the dash lights work, as does the fuel gauge. The speedometer does bounce under 40 mph. The 360 is largely factory stock, for the exception of a Holley carb(original included), plug wires, and a very mild cam. I have also installed new shocks all the way around, as well as new stabilizer links. It, honestly, could be driven as a "survivor" type car, as it has just the right amount of "patina" that is all the rage these days.
The car is largely rust free, as the only rust visible on the car is behind the wheels. If the buyer decides to restore this car, I have NOS sheetmetal to do those repairs, which is included. All floors are spotless, as are the rocker panels. All wheel lips are perfect with all spotwelds visible. Wheelhouses, trunk drop offs, frame rails, etc are rust free. Again, only rust repair needed will be on the outer quarter panel sheetmetal.
The interior is very nice, with the driver seat bottom and back having tears, and the carpet being worn in a few spots. Other than that, the interior is in very nice, original condition. The rim blow steering wheel is excellent, with no visible cracking.
Also included with the car are quite a bit of parts. I have rechromed front and rear bumpers, NOS tail lenses, NOS headlight bezels, NOS parking lenses, dash trim, another set of moldings to do another car, 2 factory radios, the original carb, 2 sets of fenders, NOS wagon and sedan quarter panels, NOS Driver side mirror, and probably more once I take inventory.
The car is currently licensed and insured, and could be driven, weather permitting. It is located in Kenosha, Wisconsin and I have a clear title for it in my name. The reserve is set very low for a car like this. You wil, probably, never have the opportunity to buy another original SC/36, one that hasn't been taken apart or molested, like this again. $1000 deposit is due within 24 hours via PayPal, and the remainder due within 7 days. Certified bank check or cash is preferred for the balance, and all funds will clear my bank before the car is released. I will work with a buyer on shipping, and I will also store the car for a reasonable amount of time to help out a potential buyer. Car will need to be paid in full before that is considered, however.
I also reserve the right to remove this auction for any reason, as the car is listed for sale locally. Please feel free to ask any questions, as I will answer them to the best of my ability.
