1972 AMC Javelin AMX Z code 401 project car, Black on Black NO RESERVE!
1972 AMC Javelin Description
NO RESERVE auction. You are bidding on a rare and collectable AMC Javelin AMX that needs restoration finished. It is a true AMX and is a factory Z code 401 car that had nice factory options including auto, AC, Tilt etc. I don't know the exact production numbersbut I amguessing it is pretty rare being a black on black AMX Z code car. I purchased this car a little over a year ago with the intent to refresh the car and drive it. It was running and driving when I got it but very tired soin my opinion I thought it best to disassemble the car to see whatneeds to be done. Please don't send me emails with lectures on how I "ruined a perfectly good survivor car" by taking it apart. This is what I do to all my cars that are tired and need attention. I have bought/sold/restored over 50 muscle and pony cars over the last 25-30 years. Iknow the difference between a survivorand one that needs restoration. While the paint looked decent from 25 feet it had several re-sprays and one color change andneeds to bestripped. ( I found evidence that it was blue at one time).
I am fairly certain that the car is 99% complete so you won't have to go searching for hard to find parts. Infact there are many spares and new part to numerous to list here that will go with the car. You will have a head start since including new Legendary seat upholstery in correct for 72 pattern. Dash hassome new instruments including a NOS Tach. The car has complete new wiring for the under hood area. I have all the moldings, side marker lights, emblems etc that were removed from the car andlots of new ones thatwere purchased for the restoration that will go with the car.
I have a 71 RWB Donahue/Penske clone that I vintage race. Ilove this body style and really wanted a street car to have as a driver. With that said, it doesn't appear I am going to get to this car anytime soon and could really use the space. This is a very solid car that spent most of it's life in sunny California and therefore the body has just a few minor issues to address which I will describe shortly. I am offering at the car at a very reasonalble starting price with NO RESERVE.
Body- I am including photos of all the sheet metal imperfections that I know of. As I said, the car is a California car and therefore is a very solid foundation for a high end restoration if you so choose to do. As far as rust there are a few small pin holes in the trunk and will not require a complete pan replacement. I have included a complete pan from donor car to allow for any patch panels that you may need. Interestingly there is a larger hole at the driver side shock mount (there was a bad patch job and I cut it out) which apparently was caused not from rust but from an air shock blow out. I am finding out this is common with these cars. Again, I have sheet metal for repairs. There is also a little rust in the passenger side trunk rain channel. It has been cut out and repair panel is being provided. Last, there is minor perforation behind the rear wheels at the bottom of the quarter panels. Aftermarket repair panels are available. That's it. The rest of the car is rock solid including pans, rockers, fenders, doors, fender troughs etc. It has a very nice grill tub and screen. I have a couple of sets of bumpers to go with the car all of which are straight. The AMX cowl hood is in very good condtion with no rust or delamination.
Engine-Drivetrain. As I previously said, the car was running and driving but engine was weak and transmission shifted very harshly so they are out. The both need rebuilding and of course come with the car. The engine is not pictured because it is still sitting on the floor at my engine builder's shop just as I left it months ago. The transmission is here in my garage. I have all the engine accessories including Power steerin, AC brackets. etc. I have 2 of the three AC hoses along with orginal radiator and condenser. NOT shown but I do have the factory ram air cleaner set up.
I probably have left something out so of course I welcome your questions. Feel free to send a message through eBay with your phone number and I will gladly call you back. Thanks for taking a look and good luck.
