This vehicle is a 1961 Austin Healey 3000 Mark II BT7 2+2, four-seat model. It has been used as a weekend driver and hobby car, but we are downsizing and no longer have garage space or the ability to maintain it. It runs well and very fun to drive. It’s ready for its next adventure and you’ll make plenty of friends along the way!
Over 100 additional photos available at: http://s1077.photobucket.com/user/jed345/library/Healey
The body is all steel. There has been repair to the hood (bonnet). The pictures of the car accurately reflect the condition of its paint (good with some imperfections), interior appointments (good), carpet (good), tires (good), rims (good) and chrome (good). The pictures also show that the car is rust free, except for a few minor spots that are well detailed in the pictures. The the body panels fit nicely (not perfect but nice). Floorboards are good. All the lights work. The speedometer/odometer stopped working. The electric overdrive works when it sees fit, probably Lucas gremlins.
Nothing is known of the history of the drivetrain, but appears to be original to the vehicle. When last checked the engine had 150 pounds compression on all cylinders and oil pressure was good. The car leaks oil around the valve cover gasket and transmission seals, but I haven’t seen a Healey that doesn’t. The transmission works well as does the rear differential. An oil filter conversion kit has been installed, and the original configuration is included.
The car has three A-H 100-6 SU HD8 carburetors. The carburetors have been rebuilt, restored, bench tested and recently adjusted. The balance pipe and choke control assembly have been replaced. One of the three carburetors is not original. The float bowl is on the wrong side but does not affect performance.
The ignition circuit remains the original points system. The coil has been replaced. (the original coil is part of the package) and the circuit has been changed to negative ground for safety. The battery is a NAPA 75 nearing the end of its dependable life. It is equipped with a cut-off switch. New sparkplug wires have recently been installed.
A 540-420 gear reduction starter has been installed for increased efficiency and reduced weight. The original is included.
The fuel pump has been replaced with a solid state one, although the original is still in the vehicle and functions. The gas tank has been drained and cleaned and new filters installed. The fuel gauge does not work, with the needle pointing to full when activated, probably ground related.
The tie rod assembly, the four ball joint ends, and front sway bar and bushings have been replaced as have the front wheel bearings and hub seals.
The front brake rotors have been upgraded as well as installation of semi-metallic brake pads and the associated brake lines. The rear brakes have not been worked on.
The exhaust system consists of a glass pack muffler and straight tailpipe. A touring configuration would be a nice touch.
The convertible top (hood) is brand new sun-fast canvas and has only been used for display purposes. Side curtains are also with the vehicle. The leather tonneau is also new and has the ribs included.
There is some cracking of paint on the hood and some small rust/bubbling spots on the door (all pictured on the Photobucket site). There is also an area on the driver’s door a couple inches in diameter that has been scratched (also in pictures). It doesn’t look like there is anything that can’t be easily taken care of during the next touch-up/paint job, if you’re so inclined. All have been there for many years with little to no change.
