1964 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III Convertible

Red with White Hardtop with Black Interior
The 3000 Mark III was launched in October 1963, nd remained in production until the end of 1967 when production of Austin-Healeys ceased. Classified as the BJ8, he new model was the most powerful and luxurious of the big Healeys, ith a walnut-veneer dash, ind-up windows, nd a 150 hp (112 kW) engine. Improvements to the engine from earlier cars included a new camshaft and valve springs, nd twin SU 2" HD8 carburetors, ogether with a new design of exhaust system. Servo-assisted brakes were now fitted as standard. Option extras were similar to those offered for the Mark II, he main change being that the standard interior trim was now Ambla vinyl, ith leather seats being added to the list of options. In May 1964 the Phase II version of the Mark III was released, hich had a modified rear chassis that allowed rear ground clearance to be increased, mong other minor improvements.
This particular 3000 Mk. III is a professionally restored example in its original colors, one by Austin Healey restoration authority Kurt Tanner, ccording to the owner. It was sold new in early 1964 via Nuffield Exports of San Francisco, alifornia, nd finished in this dashing shade of Colorado red with black interior and soft top. It was thoroughly optioned with wire wheels, heater, djustable steering column, laminated windscreen, nd importantly, n overdrive unit fitted to the transmission.
The car has seen very few miles since the show-level restoration was completed, nd is ostensibly as-new in virtually every regard. Owing to its longtime dry climate existence, he restoration work was able to be carried out in a “body on” fashion, inimizing any disruption to the panel gaps and shut lines. The paint, hrome, lass and lenses are all unmarked and absolutely beautiful. The car sits on sparkling wire wheels shod with modern BF Goodrich tires which are nearly new. The interior upholstery, ash wood, nstruments and switchgear are all in immaculate condition. The car is equipped with a rare factory hard top in a beautifully contrasting white, hich is restored to the caliber of the balance of the car, s is the soft top and frame.
The under hood and trunk areas are also restored to show standards. The only alterations known to us from original specification are steel braided fuel lines, nd a trunk mounted battery shut off, oth changes made with reliability and safety in mind. When the trunk lid is open, t is possible to detect where some minor body repairs had been carried out to the lid itself. The trunk even features a period-style Lucas badged battery.
The car runs and drives as it looksand would lead the new owner to feel like he was driving home from the selling dealer in San Francisco in 1964! Included with the car is the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, bound Driver’s Handbook, estored factory hard top, estored soft top and frame, nd matching wire wheel spare with hold down. With the driving season approaching, his beautifully restored and turn-key Healey is the perfect summertime addition to any British car collection.
