Another great British automotive citizen has arrived at MotoeXotica Classic Cars, a 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8. This is an unrestored model, which has had a single repaint since new.
This awesome, last year big Healey BJ8 3000 MKIII has had the same festidous owner since 1968! He purchased the car in August of 1968 from Fred Reynolds Sports Car Center in Irwin PA. We have the original sales invoice that shows the trade in was a 1962 Jaguar XKE with a trade in price of $1600.00 leaving the balance at $1596.50. Those were the days my friends! We also have a copy of the title that remained with the owner for just shy of 50 years. We also have the original AH Healey 3000 MKIII drivers handbook and service receipts for the last 10 years that back up the mileage with less than 200 miles accumulated in the time span. While the current title reads exempt on mileage due to age the car will certainly speak for itself as a 32,XXX mile car as stated by the previous owner!
It features the following new parts – exhaust, tires, brakes, bushings, Kingpins sway bar links, brake calipers, brake booster and fuel pump.
Its Ice Blue exterior is in near-excellent overall condition, as is the car’s trim with minor imperfections. The windshield is clear and intact and the car’s lights, even the fog lights, look great. The car rides on Michelin XZX radials, size 185SR15 at all four corners, surrounding new chrome wire wheels with knock offs. The body panels are all in excellent condition, including the bumpers and the folding top with its plastic rear window.
Under the hood is a 2.9L straight six-cylinder engine buttoned to a four-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive.
Inside, the original interior is in overall good order. The Mineral Blue Ambla vinyl bucket seats, with their gold trim, look very good. The carpet is correct and brand new condition and the instrument panel, with its black top, complete set of instruments and burled walnut, looks fantastic. The three-spoke steering wheel, with its wood rim, looks great. The inner door panels, mirror glass and shifter are all in good order. The center console is in very good condition. Rounding out the interior is a classic Audiovox solid-state AM/FM radio.
The 3000 sports convertible Mark III was announced in February 1964 its power increased from 136 bhp to 150 bhp by a new higher lift camshaft. SU HD8 carburetors replaced HS6 units increasing the choke size from 1.75 to 2 inches. Power-assisted braking became standard instead of optional. The new car's fascia displayed its speedometer and tachometer directly in front of the driver.
The Mark III BJ8 remained in production until the end of 1967 when manufacture of Austin-Healeys ceased.
Documentation includes original driver’s handbook, a copy of the original 1968 sales invoice, a copy of 1970 title, 10 years of service receipts with mileage for backup, a pair of bullet sideview mirrors and a toolkit.
Competitors to this Austin in 1967 included Fiat’s Dino Spider and Mercedes-Benz’s 230 SL.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 32,802 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
