I am selling my 1961 Bug Eye Sprite. The car is a custom hand built body. The best I can figure out is that it was totaled very early on. It was last tabbed out of Montana in 1966. It has much of the original floor pan but the body is hand layed fiberglass from the fire wall back. The frame has been replaced with thicker square tube, Which makes it nice and rigid. The fiber glass is layed over a bird cage style tube frame.
The bonnet latches nice butthe drivers sidehood hinge should be replaced.
I took it to our local cars and coffee event last Sunday and it was a hit to say the least.
It runs and drives nice. The odometer says 59 miles and I woke it up from a very long nap. I have not found any rust andor anything that points to the car having more than 59 miles on it. I originally purchased the car hoping to get a bug eye tub and use it as my running gear, but it is far too cool for that. It really should be enjoyed as is. Even the seats have that perfect patina look.
I have not had a key made yet, so I am running the car off a toggle switch. I have a signed clear title, but it is not in my name. Original 948CC Engine.
It is missing the windshield glass ( moss motors sells them for a little under $300. after freight ) I was trying to decide on a pair of half moon style racing wind screens.
This car makes me smile every time I drive it. Use it as your parts kit for a stock Bug Eye Sprite or enjoy it as-is you cannot go wrong either way.
