Italian manufacturer Ferdinando Innocenti produced several vehicles in partnership with British Motor Corporation. One of the most successful and desirable is the Innocenti Spider, a compact sports car with superb styling introduced at the 1960 Turin Auto Show. Innocenti made a splash with an attractive little Spider built upon Austin Healy Sprite underpinnings.
These two 1964 Innocenti 1100 S Spidersare Ghia-designed, OSL built and British Motor Corporation [BMC] backed roadsters based on theMK2Austin-Healey Sprite with modifiedchassis. The Spider wasthe first Tom Tjaarda design for Ghiaand was assembledby OSI in Milan.Fewer than 7,000 cars were produced over five years,approximately 2,100 of which were 1100 S models such as these two. The Sprite origins are visible inthefamiliar shifter hump, transmission tunnel, and floor braces.Power is from a 1,098cc AustinA-series fourwithitssignature olive green rockercover, while shifting is via a4-speed manualtransmission. Induction is from twin SU carburetors breathing through pancake filter housings
Supported by the attached 1972 Motor Vehicle Excise Tax receipt, these cars were purchased & imported into Massachusetts USA. They were soon relocated to California USA. 1 owner for over 53 years! By design, 1 car was used for driving while the other was used as a parts car. The cars have been no-op and housed indoors
