This auction is for a rare Austin Healey BN2 100-4 Factory M, one of only 640 factory examples built
Born May 11, 1956. Shipped to Toronto, Canada. I do NOT know any history of this vehicle until I bought it
I purchased this 100 M in Seaside, California, from a soldier stationed at Fort Ord, in May of 1985, and put the title in my name on May 29, 1985. I was looking for a Sunbeam Tiger, saw this and thought the hood louvres looked really cool. This 100 M was kept in my garage, and I drove it around, during the summer months, for the next couple of years. It was painted black at the time I bought it and remained so during this time period. 1988 was the last year it was on the road and the last year the motor was started. From then on I kept the non-op registration current.
1988–1990: The motor was removed, painted the correct green color, new clutch plate and throw-out bearing installed and motor put back in car. Motor was not rebuilt or taken apart. Car was trailered over to a friend that did body and fender work (on the cheap). Rust in floor panels and bottom 6” of doors was removed and or treated. Liberal use of fiberglass on floors, fiberglass and body filler used on bottom 6” of doors. Some body filler on front around grill. As I remember the rest of the body was pretty straight. Bought new front apron so it could be painted along with car. My 100M was then trailered over to a friend’s shop for painting. Painted the original Healey Blue over Old English White. Wire wheels + spare were also painted.
1990-2004: Brought back to my garage, most parts put back on. Converted to Moss Motors coil front shocks, spin on oil filter, and Moss Motors stainless steel exhaust system. Life got in the way so the M was covered up and it sat in my garage until 2004.
2004-2017: Brought home a Z3 in 2004 so the 100M had to go outside next to the garage. Put some more parts on car and it was then that I realized that sometime in 1988-1990 the vehicle ID and batch/body # tags had been removed when the car was painted. My problem was that the body man was nowhere to be found and the painter had passed away. I searched my house/garage/attic/and under the house for the tags, not to be found. Along with that problem was the frustration caused by trying to install a new Moss Motors wiring harness. I’m done! Covered up the car and it sat until this year. I turned 65. Back to the tags. This reproduction vehicle ID plate was stamped and the batch/body number plate was made by Todd Clarke after I provided him proof (California Ownership Certificate or AKA pink slip) of the vehicles ID. A few more parts were put on. I unbolted seats so floors could be inspected, trunk also bare. What you see is what you get.
Here are a few things that are missing/broken/problems: No cold air box (don’t even know if the SUs are correct), wiring harness needs to be connected, broken windshield safety spring bolt (was new, snapped right off on install, guess I didn’t have it lined up just right), grill not in good shape and just sitting in opening not attached, floor looks good, but bottom of doors (especially driver’s side) bubbling up from return of rust, there a few other little (dime size) areas where paint is chipped off but hard to see from photos; just above and to left of grill opening are two little areas and there is one that in about in the middle of the trunk lid, and a little area around one of the hood louvres where there is a small area about side of a dime where rust is started under the paint.
This vehicle will be listed for sale in other venues. There is no warranty applied or written. This car is offered for sale “as is”, “where is”. I am in NO hurry after all these years, so I am NOT interested in any low ball offers. Please do bid if you are a serious buyer, have at least a 5 feedback score, and are willing to follow thru with the purchase.
