1964 Austin Healey Sprite Description

Nothing relieves stress like a top down, wind in the face drive on a winding road in an Austin Healey Sprite.

Sprites are like the world’s biggest “Slot car”…They handle great, are light and nimble. They can put a smile on your face the moment you start them up and nothing unties the knots in your colon like driving a classic British Sports car.

The Sprite offered here has been gone through completely in order to be certain that it relieves stress rather than causing it.

The most important thing about this car is that we started with a rust free, accident free car and built from there.

Starting up front, we replaced the troublesome SU carbs with a brand new Weber 36dgv downdraft 2 barrel. This provides easier starting, better throttle response and overall smoother acceleration.

One of the main concerns with older British sports cars is the wiring.

All of the Sprites wiring harnesses have been replaced, along with the fuse box and voltage regulator. The engine has less than 500 miles on a complete overhaul.

To make the car stop as well as it goes, all of the hydraulics have been gone through. New brake and clutch master cylinder, new clutch slave cylinder, new rear brake cylinders, rebuilt front calipers, new pads and shoes.

The fuel system is also new. New tank, new sending unit, new fuel lines.

On the inside we installed new carpet and a new panel kit.

To enhance the handling at the rear the tube shock conversion has been done, as well as the installation of a rear sway bar and panhard rod for improved rear end control.

On the outside the pictures show the stages of primer and paint. The body was shot in HI build Primer and block sanded to provide a smooth flat surface to apply the top coat to. The new paint is 2K urethane in “Viper Red”. The finish has been color sanded in multiple stages and polished to a mirror like finish. The white center stripe, front and rear bumperettes and custom aluminum wheels complete the “Mini Cobra” look that sets this Sprite apart from the crowd.

As this car was built for top down motoring there is no convertible top with the car. (Tops can be purchased from either Victoria British or Moss motors.) There is a new tonneau cover included. This Sprite is ready to go for years of summer driving fun.

Rear Tube shock conversion was not done on this car. It was planned for but we did not go through with the installation. Sorry about the confusion.
