1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN1
1955 Austin Healey Other Description
Well, Here she is in the nude. My 1955 Austin-Healey 100 BN1. I purchased her almost two years ago with full intention of completely restoring her on my own. Well life has a way of beating down your spirit sometimes and my motivation seems to be at an all time low. If the right person wants to take on this project I will let her go. I have a fair bit invested in this project and would like to recover it. And now some details... This car is complete, I have everything for it, either original or new. I have all new brake parts, including a set of BN2 front drums and hubs for the larger front brakes, new larger front swaybar from Denis Welch, complete poly bushing kit and new front springs, new windshield also.BodyBoth rocker panels replaced, boot floor replaced, Driver's foot well replaced, lower section of driver door replaced. All body panels are original and in good shape. Floor panels are solid but show rust pitting and could be replaced. Includes AH Spares aluminum louvered bonnet as well as original bonnet. Grill is original but surround is new. Body needs final metal finishing but is very close to complete and read for final prep.FrameAppears to be in fair shape, some cracks around right side rear shock mount(common issue) easy repair. Some corrosion to frame below battery area from acid leaks. Frame is solid and appears straight.EngineCompletely rebuilt, block sleeved to standard bore with new 100M higher compression pistons. New Denis Welch aluminum cylinder head. Denis Welch rocker cover, Denis Welch 100S camshaft kit, Denis Welch aluminum oil sump with baffles, New 100M H6 SU carburetors, 100M cold air induction box with performance air filter, Vernier cam sprocket, lightened flywheel, competition steel head gasket, spin-on oil filter adapter. Engine appears to be from an earlier 100 due to the block tag #139xxx, possibly 1953 model. Engine has never been started and I completed the rebuild last winter. I have may photos of the build process.TransmissionOriginal BN1 3 speed box w/ overdrive. I went through this box and it was in great shape. All seals and bearings replaced. Original synchros appear good and serviceable.Rear AxleCompletely gone through, new bearings, seals and thrush washers.Steering BoxCompletely gone through and resealed.
This car still needs full electrical, and interior replacement parts. Gauges will need refurbishment but they are here and complete. I have a new windshield from England. My goal with this car was to build a great driving 100, not a 100M clone or a Concours show car. Once again, I have all the original parts for this car, I just couldn't photograph them all. I have a clean Oregon title in my name. Some history on this car..I believed it was raced in the 50's by the original owner in Portland. I bought the car from the 3rd owner who simply stored it for 25 years and only removed the engine for inspection. I have been in contact with the second owner who received the car as a High School graduation present in the mid-60's. He had some stories and is responsible for most of the dents in the car when I received it. This car has been in the Portland area its entire life until recently.
