Here is the perfect restoration project for an Austin Healey enthusiast who wants to start with a complete car that has a solid body, beautiful interior and a well-preserved engine. I don't want to write about it being a barn find, because quite honestly, I pulled it from my buddy's brother's home in Detroit where it sat covered in his garage. When his brother bought the home 20 years ago, the car was left in the garage and was never moved. He has since passed away and I have agreed to sell it as is with a bill of sale since I work at Shamrock Automotive in Dearborn, MI. The car has a solid body and undercarriage, the interior is near perfect with the exception of that rip along the seam of the front seat and an engine that does turn freely. I'd love to get her up and running myself, but I'm knee deep in restoring a Bocar (see last image), which is going to be a project that will keep me working for at least a year. So, off she goes to a new owner (along with the Driver's Handbook and Workshop Manual) and, hopefully, she'll be resurrected, as it's also a great parts car (body panels, bumpers, top, interior, engine, tires/wheels, etc.), but I love when another classic is restored. We just finished a 70 Lincoln Mark IV and are currently working on a 65 Mustang, as well as the Bocar. There is nothing like the face of an owner when the project is complete and they see it for the first time! It's probably why there's so many car restoration shows these days... what other machine carries such a deep emotional attachment? Anyway, I want to be clear about this car, as I do have the bill of sale, but purchased it without a title or keys. Getting a re-issued title and a new set of keys or ignition will be the sole responsibility of the new owner. However, I do have a salvage dealer license, so I am allowed to sell this car to anyone who wants to gets her back up and running or use it for parts. The VIN written on the Workshop Manual is HAN9U77369 and the tag on the inside fender by the door hinge (which I have pictured) is HUN004615P. Feel free to check the car out at our shop in Dearborn (2040 South Telegraph Road, 48124) or give me a call (Tom) at 313-805-4265 to get more information or set up an inspection. If I'm not around, feel free to call Peder at 313-729-3671 and he'll be able to help you out. Please do NOT bid on this car unless you are willing to commit to my legally binding agreement to purchase it. Alas, I've run across several tire kickers or guys who haven't cleared it with their significant other, so I want make sure that you understand that this is a no reserve auction and will sell to the highest bidder. Also, while this is a pickup item only, I'll be happy to arrange for shipment at your expense. A deposit of $500 will be due within 24 hours of the auction end with the balance due within 3 business days. In essence, please ask any and all questions so that you are satisfied with your purchase. |
