1971 BMW 2002 Coupe Description

You are bidding on a very well preserved 1971 BMW 2002. Although it has had some light touch ups here and there, it still retains much of its original appearance and equipment. Originally a California car until 2001, migrated to the Midwest, no winters, garaged under car cover when not driven. Just a few high points, still retains factory tool kit and manuals, (see pics). Very solid example, nice floors, frame rails, trunk area, etc. Still has the original steel BMW roundels with just the right amount of patina, (see pic). Sharp car as is, a repaint would really bring it up to the next level, but that might hurt the originality aspect of it? Description as follows:

Mechanical:
• Original numbers matching drive train, 4 speed manual
• Head rebuilt within the last 2000 miles by BMW specialist
• Very original engine compartment, few bits and pieces touched up. Still has original factory stickers in place including older tag on brake reservoir? Looks original (see pic).
• Very well maintained, runs and drives well
• New tires, recent brake work, tie rods, exhaust, shocks

Exterior:
• Still retains original Sahara paint color, some misc. touch ups over the years
• Original steelie wheels with full hub caps
• Good original bumper and trim, not perfect but nice
• Everything works right down to the license plate lights
• A/C unit is complete, compressor in place, drive belt in place. I suspect it will need recharged? Have not investigated. Compressor spins freely, not blowing cold.

Interior:
• Factory original tobacco interior, never replaced to my knowledge.
• Hard to find, crack free dash
• Newer carpet supplied by Esty carpet, great look and fit.
• Vintage AM/FM radio, appears to be original
• Nice original steering wheel, no cracks
• All factory seat belts in place
• Kind of odd ash tray mounted under dash left of steering wheel? Appears to be original to the car, but I’ve never seen anything like it.

To sum it all up, a collectable 2002 never fully restored, but preserved quite well. Mechanically all appears in order. Solid car, some paint touch ups rhroughout. Suitable to drive as is or the perfect car for a full on restoration. Some would argue that the value in this car lies in the originality and would be best enjoyed as is.
