1975 BMW 2002 daily driver! BMW e10 2002.
1975 BMW 2002 base 2 door coupe Description
It is time for me to part ways with a few of my "toys" LoL
This is a great little toy too! The car has been a blast to drive, and is a real head turner.
The engine has plenty of power, and the four speed transmission shifts smoothly. She will run down the interstate with traffic at ease too. The clutch has plenty of bite left as well. The tires on the car are in great shape, the charging system has all been replaced in the past year, rear shocks were replaced (I have the fronts, just have not found the time to install them) and a tune up was done within the last year as well. The color is Fjord blue, and the interior is dark blue leather. The exhaust system has been replaced in the last couple years as well. It was straight piped from the header into a Magnaflow muffler which produces a great sound. The car has been driven since it's original purchase, and went through a full restoration in the early 90's. Since then, it has been daily driven by two separate owners. My oldest son talked me into going in on this car with intentions of it being our "project car". He moved because of a job opportunity and to be honest, the car has been sitting too much with out him hear. I am into a few other hobbies, so I just can't get motivated to put the time into this one as well.
Now onto some of the car's needs. There is a little bit of rust that should be addressed. Nothing weaken or or really bad. The spare tire area has the worst of it. There is some worth mentioning on the passenger floor pan too. I was under the car this past summer during on of the oil changes and I could see where someone had patched the floor before. The paint is still nice and shinney, but it is starting to show it's age too. The driver's side outside door handle is inoperable, and the car has to be opened from the inside. The sunroof is also off track, and will need to be re-positioned before trying to open. Also the gauges have begun to age, the speedometer nor the tachometer are in working order. The coolant temp gauge works perfect though, as well as the fuel gauge. The odometer was listed as TMU, but since my ownership has counted fine. Mileage is probably around 130k, Or maybe 230K... There really is no way to tell. I do still drive the car occasionally because I can't stand to see anything sitting too much. Also, on both driver's and passenger door and quarter panel, you'll notice some blue vinyl. The previous owner placed that over some surface rust areas in hopes of slowing the process.. Clearly, he wasn't a "car guy". The interior carpet around the fire walls is in need of puttig back together some. The driver's seat also needs to be redone because you sit down in there way too far. door panels are floppy, but seem to still be in one piece.
All problems with the car are easily fixable, just keep in mind it is 40 year old car! Despite the flaws, the car is still just as much of a blast to drive as it was new, and rides just as well! I've loved owning it, and have driven it probably 1500+ miles in just the past few months. This includes a 300 mile trip down to Charleston and back! I can hardly pull into a gas station without someone stopping and talking to me about it. It truly is a nostalgic car, and has so much character. Lights, wipers, heater and radio all work.
I am not desperate, or in need of selling this unit. I just feel like there is someone out there who will get more enjoyment out of it than I will. I am real easy to work with, but this does not mean I am stupid. I don't care what you circumstances are, I am not letting a shipping company pick it up.
Car is listed locally as well, so please ask questions if you sincerely have interest.
Also worth mentioning. I feel like this could very easily be one of those fly in and drive it home cars. But I would suggest towingunless you are handy with a wrench in case something needs attention on your way back home. I do occasionally drive the car a hundred plus miles to go out to dinner tho, so I am not worried about pulling out of the driveway in it. Over the past several months the carb has gotten a little worse each trip tho. Idles fine, but stutters on take off unless you gas it thru pretty quikcly. Idels rough with the choke pulled out, but takes off easier and also pulls better when driving. I will sometimes pull the choke out when I am in town, and then turn it off when I get back up to open roads.
Feel free to email or text with any questions you have, I'm available anytime throughout the day.
Thanks, Mitch
