Selling my 1989, 635csi with rare factory manual transmission. This is a clean and for the most part very original example of this classic style, last year made. In 89 only 61 were imported with manual transmission and I believe only 7 with this color combo, probably only a few left by now if any, this may be the only one! Another rare feature is the factory Limited Slip Deferential!! Also being that it's an 89, it came with more leather trim than older models, such as lower dash area, door panels, center console, headliner and rear by speaker panel, all leather and beautiful stitching still intact plus heated seats and rear shade!
The car has a very straightforward history, I bought it less than a year ago from a local gentleman, his dad bought it new and sold to him when the car was three years old so, he owned it most of it's life and took very good care of it with services done at Bavarian Professionals in Berkeley. He kept it is mostly original with the exception of the following;
-Dinan suspension all around, shocks, springs, sway bars. -UUC short shifter. -Late model E39, 530i M sport package rims. -Front clear corner lights( I have the original orange set). While I've owned it, I've done the followings;
-Full A/C service and conversion to R134. -LSD rebuilt professionally. -Rear brake pads and rotors. -Front brake pads. -New water pump and Thermostat. -Oil service. -New leather shift boot and M lighted shift knob.
This car drives solid, engine feels strong, manual transmission with the short shift feels great. I do believe the Dinan suspension upgrade was a smart choice also, it gives the car a much improved handling not to mention a beautiful sportier stands. In the interest of full disclosure here are a few of issues I'm aware of;
-All the panels are original with the exception of front right fender, I was told by previous owner that it was replaced while his dad owned it, there is nothing wrong with it however the very top of the fender is showing some fading( I've included a photo) the passenger door was repainted to match also. -Dash has cracks. -Driver seat has a tear on the bottom and left bolster is worn. -Antenna doesn't go all the way down. -A few small cracks on the front spoiler. Other than that the car is very solid and intact, all tools, jack, books and keys are intact, even the glasses are all OEM BMW ones from factory. There are no rust anywhere that I'm aware of.
This car has had extensive service work done, mostly at Bavarian Pros in Berkeley. Redline oil services and many other inspections and routine work, also about 11 years ago at 140k miles, it had a complete engine rebuilt at cost of nearly $5k done at Bavarian Pros!! That I'm sure has a lot do to with why it runs so strong and smooth now.I'm a BMW CCA member, this is my 4th E24 and probably the 80th BMW!! I love these cars and have a lot of respect for them specially the early years. Thereason for selling this car is due to a new project car I've acquired so, I need room.
