1989 BMW 6-Series e24 Description

Really Great Running Car.. '89 e24 BMW 635csi With Just Over 133,900 miles on working odometer.
Car starts up first time, every time.
Recent SMOG certificate (Dec, 2016) shows excellent results.. Very low emissions, See last picture, almost all zeros.
Rear hydraulic suspension has been professionally converted to standard rear suspension..
New Bilstein B-4 (non-hydraulic) rear shocks installed, with full and proper conversion to standard suspension, with Bavarian Autosport elimination kit. (I purchased shocks and the elimination kit earlier this year from Bavarian Autosport)
Replaced rear springs with proper BMW springs from another 1989 635csi conversion project, on which the owner decided to go with a sport spring. (He had purchased the springs new)
Rear hydraulic reservoir still present, and properly installed under spare time, and can be re-connected if a full "back to original" restoration project is desired. See picture..
**Original hydraulic shocks and hydraulic lines will be included with this sale** (as parts, as is)
Interior is in very good condition, with a few fairly minor tears in seams of front seats.
Rear seats are in very good condition, as seen in pictures.
Brakes are good.. A mechanic had it up on a rack to replace the two drive belts, about 3 months ago, and he said the pads had plenty of life, but he did not offer a specific wear measurement of the pads.
Rotors feel smooth, and don't seem to be warped.
Acceleration is very good. Tires will chirp around corners, and squeal a bit if you lay into it.
I am 55 years old, and I am generally a very conservative driver, but just to get a feel for the car I did 'get on' the accelerator, a couple of times, just as any BMW enthusiast would. Really healthy feeling car!
Transmission shifts properly in all 3 driving modes.
Car was owned by mid-fifties BMW enthusiast for, I'm pretty sure he said 8 years, but I will check on that, to make sure, and update ad if necessary. I bought it last December.. The fellow I bought it from drove up and down Cali highways, and was going to restore it, but has encountered some medical issues, and opted to sell the car.
The same is so for myself.. I'm 55, and I recently had to have thyroid surgery, and I am selling this car because the medical bills are starting to come in. I have a perfectly good 325ic to drive, and can't really justify having two cars right now.
Lately I drive it to and from work, which is mostly highway, about 5 miles each way.
The new suspension in the rear makes all the difference in the world.. Rides real nicely.
Heated driver seat works well, and pass heated seat should work fine as well, I will check it again, and update the ad this evening.
Electric seat adjustments all work well.
Rims and tires are 14's, tires are in real good shape, see pictures.
Blower motor/fan works only on the high setting, unless the AC button is depressed, in which case
it works properly, like a potentiometer.
AC may or may not blow cold.. I have not replaced the belt.
No peculiar electrical issues that I have found.
No unusual smells, either under the hood, or in the cabin.
No evidence pets or smokers.
The brake lamp warning lite does stay on.. I have replaced the lamps, and it still stays on. Likely this is a sensor.
Sometimes the coolant level light comes on after driving for about 15 or 20 min.. A new coolant level sensor is under $20, and of course, easily self-installed. When the level rises a bit, as it should, the light comes on, and then the light goes out. The coolant level is fine, and I have watched it carefully. I recently topped it up, which is when the light started coming on, so I drew a bit back out of the reservoir, and it happens much less frequently now.
SRS light is on, but there are no malfunctions apparent, so it's probably just in need of a reset.
Driver airbag, original equipment...I believe there is a pass side airbag, but I am not certain..
(*If you would like to know, just email me, and I will go to the dealership and find out for sure*)
I am pretty certain that this is the first and only year that airbags were available on this model.
Sometimes 'bumps' a bit into reverse.. NOT every time.. Probably some play in the differential, or could be Ujoints..You can go ahead and Google it, if you like, there is info out there.. Drives fine as it is..
If I were keeping the car, I would address it, but it's pretty insignificant really.
Engine bay is surprisingly clean and dry.
Trunk light works, but it sometimes stays on, after the lid is closed so I removed the bulb.
There is some residue of tape on driver armrest, and a crack, taped, see picture. Side view mirror control seats a little funny, but is working well.
Interior lighting all works.
Cruise control works properly.
All gauges work.
I've indicated everything I can think of, as far as I know the car. It's a 28 year old car, so it's not perfect, but it's a huge candidate for restoration..
Or, just drive it like it is, and you'll still get plenty of appreciation for it's appearance. (I drive it almost every day, and people, younger and older are always doing a double take on it)
I just took it out for an hour or so, for pictures, and three different people started up a chat with me.. So even as it sits, it's truly an eye catcher.
