I have for sale a BEAUTIFUL E28 535i for sale with original CA blue and yellow license plates. Original Alpine White paint still shines up very nicely. Pearl Beige leather interior. This is not just any E28. This car has had the infamous M30B35 engine and Bosch Motronic 1.3 Fuel Injection transplant. If you don't know what this is, please do a google search for more info. I will start from the beginning...
I bought this E28 from the 2nd owner with a blown M30B34 engine with the intention of doing the above transplant. The car had been well taken care of by the previous owner, up until he donated the car to his college student daughter. She is the one that ran the original engine out of coolant, thus blowing the engine. Before I bought the car, it had recently had a new clutch along with a low mileage used transmission. Also recently added was a new fuel pump and filter. I bought it with about 270k on the clock. The car now has 298k.
Engine: I found a complete low mileage M30B35 with complete Bosch 1.3, minus the 179 ECU. Owner said it was from his Mom's 1990 535i that got rear ended. He said the car had 80k when it got rear ended. I bought the engine and found a 179 ECU on Ebay. To make a long story short, I finished the project and the car runs GREAT. Please ask any questions if you want details.
Exhaust: Currently running "Catless" with B35 exhaust manifolds from an E24 (635csi) into a straight pipe (where the cat used to be) with O2 sensor bung. The E24 downpipes are the only B35 down pipes that will work with an E28 - they are hard to find. Aft of the O2 sensor is a Paul Ladue (Alpinass) SS cat back exhaust with full resonator and muffler. Exhaust is very quiet with NO drone whatsoever. I have the original cat and B34 exhaust system to bolt back on for smog purposes. But the car absolutely screams with the B35 catless exhaust. I live in an unincorporated area, which does not require annual smog checks. This is why I am running the car catless. I smogged the car once with the B35 engine and the B34 exhaust/cat back in 2013. I can work with the serious buyer to get this car smogged - if this is a concern.
Here is a list of parts I have added to this car:
- Ebay performance chip
- H&R lowering springs, front and rear
- Bilstean Sport Shocks all around
- Complete front end rebuild with Lemforder components (control arms, steering links, and idler arm)
- New Bosch brake rotors and brake pads, front and rear.
- E30 3.73 Limited Slip rear end out of 325iS
- New Diff Mount
- E30 Sport Seats
- Dash Cap (sun cracked original)
- Replaced cracked coolant tank with new (this is what killed the original engine)
I am hoping this car will go to another E28 enthusiast who will take care of and appreciate this special automobile. It is a work in progress, and still needs a few things. This car is far from perfect. The rear top of the leather seat has sun damage. The Sport seats have ripped bolsters (as with most of the seats at this age). I do have replacement bolster upholstery for both seats, upper and lower. I just never got around to putting them on. The original dash is cracked, and the dash cap I have installed is lifting up around the passenger side vent. The rear axle shafts are getting old and have some play in them. This is also very common for a car with this kind of mileage. Also, I have noticed the clutch master cylinder should probably be replaced soon, as the clutch hydraulics slowly looses pressure as you are waiting at stop light. This has been going on for a very long time, and I simply have the car in neutral when waiting at a light. Car needs a trunk seal, which is included with the sale. I have removed the air conditioning unit and cruise control, as I knew these were not important to me. I wanted a simple and light car as possible. The body is in good rust free condition, but there are small dings and scratches. Car does not leak. Sunroof works great.
I have put much money and time into this car, but I find I don't drive it much anymore. I am spending more time commuting to work and hauling kids around, which my Mercedes diesel wagon does very well (and keeps me out of trouble). Plus I have gotten too many tickets in this car, as it is pretty irresistable to drive fast ;-)
This car is located in the Santa Rosa area of California, about 1.5 hours north of the San Francisco. If you are serious please call or text me at 707-849-1214 so we can discuss the car and details of transfer. If I don't respond, it is probably because I am out of cell phone range, leave me a voice message. My name is Jon.
