BMW Z1 - Only 9K Miles from New - Limited Production & Rare
1990 BMW Z1 -- Description
1990 BMW Z1 ROADSTER --Traumschwartz Metallic (Green-Grey Metallic) with Grey/Camo interior, 6-cylinder engine, 9,800 miles from new, 5-speed manual transmission. The Z1 was the first product to be developed by BMW Technik GmbH, following a decision to build a two-seat sports roadster, handed down by upper management in early 1985, and within one year, a fully operational prototype was developed. Much of the componentry came from the BMW’s 3-Series, including its engine, drivetrain, front suspension, and interior. Drawing on its Formula 1 racing experience, engineers designed a novel ground-effect system into the Z1. The body was fitted with unique electromechanical doors that dropped into the sills for easy entrance and exit by simply touching a button and the base unit construction was covered with de-mountable injection-molded thermoplastic body panels that were also capable of resisting impacts of 5 mph. Furthermore, the panels were recyclable. Available in four colors, BMW also suggested to owners that the panels were easily interchangeable should the owner desire to change colors of his or her car! Alloy wheels, unique to the Z1, were also fitted. Due to their low production and limited availability, Z1s have become instantly collectible with only 4,091 having been built in total. This example is spectacular in every way and not ordinarily found with such low original mileage, it is accompanied by the original books and removable hardtop. Extremely rare, having never been imported and sold through United States BMW franchised dealers when new, this Z1 is a significant piece of BMW history. One of a handful that have been imported to the USA.
