1984 BMW 3-Series Description
1984 325E - E30 - Pristine - 49K Mile Car - Never a Daily Driver
One of the best original condition 1984 325E's in existence. It's hard to find thirty-four-year-old classic cars that only have 49,000 miles driven.
Most classic cars start out as daily drivers. They eventually are placed in a garage for years, then lovingly restored and it becomes part of a collection.
This vehicle started its life as an enthusiasts weekend BMW Club (BMW CCA) vehicle.
Ths hinges are still bright, the paint (all original) shines as new, and the rubber on the doors and trunk allow them to close tightly with "thunk" as new.
The seats show little wear, are still lovingly cleaned with Griot's Leather 3-1 to keep them clean and supple.
Her undercarriage has very little surface rust on a few items, original factory paint on the tailpipe, and you can eat off of the engine.
All switches, gauges, radio, electric antennae, lights, horn, AC, etc. all work. (Speedometer is still in Kilometers)
It was the lead vehicle for the Michiana BMW Fall Color Tour in 2016. The chapter President said it's the best condition original three series he is aware of and perhaps the best in existence.
What I like best about the BMW E30 is the creature comforts in the vehicle make it a pleasant driver. The seats are comfortable; the air conditioning cools the cabin, it's quiet and fun to drive. The five-speed Getrag (260) transmission makes it fun to drive too.
More about her history,
This vehicle titled by its first owner on July 16, 1984, in Ontario Canada. The car was a weekend vehicle for the owner, never a daily driver.
Eleven years later (April of 1995) the vehicle was registered by its second owner in Connecticut with 52,700 Kilometers (32,726 miles) with less than 3,000 miles driven a year since new.
Eight years later (April 2003) the second owner moved from Connecticut to New York, and the car had 64,300 Kilometers registered on that day. (39,954 miles in nineteen years, that's 2,102 miles average per year of service)
After twenty-nine years from new (June 2013), the vehicle met its third owner who lived in Hilton-Head South Carolina. He was an active BMW CCA member too. At this time the car registered 73,561 Kilometres (45,709 miles in twenty-nine years, that's 1,576 miles per year)
Seventeen months later I purchased the car (November 2014) with 77,269 Kilometers registered. I have the Bill of Sale as proof of the mileage as the CarFax does not show the miles when titled in Michigan. (48,012 miles, that's about 1,548 miles a year since new)
I purchased the vehicle in October, so the seller allowed me to rent his storage location until the spring. I didn't want to drive the car to Michigan in November with the threat of snow. My wife and I picked up the car in Hilton Head on Memorial Day weekend. The previous owner kept the battery on a trickle charger, and he started it periodically during the winter.
The drive thru the Smokey Mountains was glorious. I had purchased a 1976 BMW 2002 and a 1981 BMW 318, but neither was as fun to drive as my E30. We took our time driving thru the mountains, visiting friends along the route back to Michigan.
We moved the car to Florida (trailered) in May of 2017 when we permanently moved to Florida. It's currently kept with a friends collection about 20 minutes from my house in an air-conditioned facility.
After four years, I have enjoyed the car; now it's time for someone else to enjoy it.
Hagerty shows #1 condition 1984 325E's valued at $20,200 based on market sales data. This vehicle is a #1- condition car. The BMW is in excellent condition.
The Air conditioning system (R12) works well along with everything else. It has one tiny dimple (see photos) next to the sunroof that could be removed by a dent specialist.
