To determine this value, Hagerty analyzes sources including auctions, dealer sales and peer-to-peer sales. We also note condition, history, optional equipment, quality of restoration, degree of documentation, and sales venue, just to name a few. Also incorporated into vehicle values are inventory, demand, recent trends of similar vehicles, movement within related market segments, and general directions of the vehicle market overall. This report is an up-to-date and accurate representation. MODEL OVERVIEW BMW’s M Division had already created several driver-focused masterpieces during the 1980s when theyintroduced their wonderfully enhanced E34-based sedan in 1991. This new car, dubbed the M5, featured chassis improvements over the base 5-series E34 that included different dampers, springs and thicker antiroll bars, all fitted by hand in Garching just as they had been with the car’s E28-based predecessor. The powerplant used was the S38B36 3.5-liter DOHC I-6 that produced a turbine-smooth 310 horsepower, which was good enough for a low 6-second 0-60 sprint and 155 mph when chasing the horizon. Cosmetic changes included a different front spoiler and bright BMW “M” badges to differentiate this 5 Series from its more mundane brethren. M Motorsport produced 12,254 M5s from September 1988 to August 1995, with 1,678 coming to the USA and Canada between model years 1991 to 1993. North American spec cars sold through September 1992 had unique 17” BMW M System I wheels with a center brake cooling fan insert that most find attractive today in spite of many journalists’ likening them to whitewalls at the time. The 1993 model year cars displayed more traditional M System II “Throwing Star” alloys that were nonetheless more effective at brake cooling. The E34 series M5 enjoys an especially committed following today that supports them online and in the parts aftermarket. BODY STYLES: 4dr Sedan SPECIFICATIONS: 1991 BMW M5 6-cyl. 3535cc/310hp FI ENGINES: 6-cyl. 3535cc/310hp FI Valuation report for a: 1991 BMW M5 4dr Sedan 6-cyl. 3535cc/310hp FI CURRENT & HISTORICAL VALUES Prices assumes that no major modifications to the vehicle are present. #1 Concours $49,000 Condition #1 vehicles are the best in the world. The visual image is of the best vehicle, in the right colors, driving onto the lawn at the finest concours. Perfectly clean, the vehicle has been groomed down to the tire treads. Painted and chromed surfaces are mirror-like. Dust and dirt are banned, and materials used are correct and superbly fitted. The one word description for #1 vehicles is "concours." #2 Excellent $30,100 #2 vehicles could win a local or regional show. They can be former #1 vehicles that have been driven or have aged. Seasoned observers will have to look closely for flaws, but will be able to find some not seen by the general public. The paint, chrome, glass and finishes will all appear as excellent. No excessive smoke will be seen on startup, no unusual noises will emanate from the engine. The vehicle will drive as a new vehicle of its era would. The one word description for #2 vehicles is "excellent." #3 Good $18,200 #3 vehicles could possess some, but not all of the issues of a #4 vehicle, but they will be balanced by other factors such as a fresh paint job or a new, correct interior where applicable. #3 vehicles drive and run well, but might have some incorrect parts. These vehicles are not used for daily transportation but are ready for a long tour without excuses, and the casual passerby will not find any visual flaws. "Good" is the one word description of a #3 vehicle. #4 Fair $12,600 #4 vehicles are daily drivers, with flaws visible to the naked eye. The chrome might have pitting or scratches, the windshield might be chipped. Paintwork is imperfect, and perhaps the body has a minor dent. Split seams or a cracked dash, where applicable, might be present. No major parts are missing, but the wheels could differ from the originals, or other non-stock additions might be present. A #4 vehicle can also be a deteriorated restoration. "Fair" is the one word that describes a #4 vehicle. The old saying, "they don't make 'em like they used to" definitely applies here. I am a long-term BMW CCA member, and have owned 5 M5s over the years. I have kept this M5 as a mostly daily driver for over 5 years, and it is still such a fun machine every time I go out. Obviously, this car gets attention at the local car meets, as car fans still "respect their elders". :-) At 28 years old and with over 204k miles, this car has its cosmetic flaws. The most obvious is the driver seat leather has dried and cracked, so it should be recovered to bring the appearance back to proper. The front passenger seat has some sun damage as well, a hazard in the Sunshine State. At least it's not a rust bucket from up north, right? Maintenance is current, as I service all of my vehicles (e46 M3, e39 M5, X5, EBR) at home. Mods that were added by prior owners include sport springs, short shift kit, SLS delete, etc. I will include a number of spare parts to throw in the trunk, as the previous owner did for me when I bought it. The air conditioning compressor has given up, and I have a replacement part that will come with the car. The fan motor works in all speeds, but it just doesn't get cold anymore. Since I love to put the windows down to hear the engine, that's not a terrible thing. The carfax may show an accident report from a couple years ago. A young serviceman in a hurry to get to work at MacDill Air Force Base rear ended me at a traffic light in his new Challenger. Progressive replaced the center bumper trim piece, and called it a day. _______________________________________________________________________________ Terms are simple: $500 Paypal non-refundable deposit is due within 48 hours of auction close to secure the car. Florida DMV holds a clean title electronically, so I can have them print it right away for an easy transition to your ownership. The balance of funds will be due by certified check, money order, cash, wire transfer. I will work with your shipper, pick you up at the airport (TPA or PIE), or work out a reasonable price to drive the car to you if you wish. Thank you for bidding, and good luck!! :-)
