1979 BMW 5-Series 4 door Description

1979 BMW 528i 121300 MILES. I started this car a couple years ago with intent on making the into a track car that yo could drive to the track. Well much has changed in those 2 years. I have invested a huge amount of money (over 25k) in the car to make it, fast, reliable tribute to the First 5 series imported to the US. I had Top End Performance from North Hollywood build a custom engine that has been completely rebuilt. Custom JE 9:8 to Compression Pistons. Custom 292 duration cam. Race inspired engine bored and stroked to 3400cc. ARP Head Bolts, New Oil Pump, Water Pump. The head has been ported with enlarged stainless steel valves, Dual Race Springs and titanium retainers. Ceramic Coated Headers with Full Exhaust with MagnFlow Muffler and Resinator. MSD Ignition with custom plug wires and a new full electronic ignition. I have been running Torco Octane Boost in the car since it has left the shop. In California we only get 91 octane. The car needs 93 octane that the rest of the United States gets to have. Octane equals Horsepower. I DOES NOT have a catalyst. They do not work well with carbed engines. It is registered in California and good for 2 years without smog. I have applied for a California Historic Exception on future smog test but at this point I have not had a response. I will not pass now with the carbs and without the catalyst. The really ideal use for the car is a race car but it is very nice daily driver. I had to have an automatic car because I'm in a wheelchair but I could see it with a 5 speed swap and that would make a massive difference in the driving experience. The transmission has been rebuilt. The A/C converted to 134a. Wilwood Big Brakes front and rear. Steel brake lines. Rebuilt power brake booster with a new M3 master cylinder that was necessary for the bigger brakes. 27mm bore master cylinder. The Differential is a 3:48 LSD that is RARE for an automatic car. Rear trailing arm bushing were also replaced. The seats are in good shape without tears. The dash has a couple of small cracks. The front power windows work but the rear are stuck. There is voltage to the motors but since the car sit for about 10 years in New York they are just stuck. Power Brakes and Steering. NO MOON ROOF!!! The odometer works intermittently but the all the other gauges works as designed. The car came from New York originally and shipped to San Diego. I has a couple of VERY Small Rust in the seam between the top of the fender and the side panels under the hood.It is not rusted through. It had been repainted so the exterior is nice and bright with a couple of door dings and scratches. No rust on any of body parts except as noted above. It has New Continental Sport tires 225/50 16. I could not fit any larger wheels or tire in these small wheel wells. I tired but could not get them to fit without rubbing. It is a really nice car that needs a new home with an owner who wants to be different. This car wants to be driven and not sitting in my driveway. So much has changed for me in the last 2 years it is to the point I can not enjoy the car due to health reasons. I have a pile of receipts, the original FACTORY Mechanics Manuals and Electrical Troubleshooting Manual. I am still driving the car through its break-in period. I recently drove to El Centro from San Diego and back as part of the break in. About 250 mile of steady highway miles at between 65 and 100 mph. It does not leak any fluids at all. I will have the oil changed at about a thousand miles. The 528 still has some issues like the door lock on the passenger side does not open with the auto locks but will open with the key. I have a right hand mirror which is also rare for a 79 because it was not required back then. You can look see the engine build in progress at racetep.com. Open their flickr images and look for Mike Durant's Project. I used a donor car for the engine and transmission so I could still the other necessary repairs started on this E12. I would drive this car anywhere at any time. I spared no expense on the repairs. Oceanside Motor Sports in Oceanside, Ca performed all the installation work and repairs. The car is so old that it has just a 7 digit model number. The buyer is responsible for shipping. There is no warranty expressed or implied. Clear California Title
