1986 BMW 6-Series Leather Recaro Seats Description

If your are looking at this Listing, you are probably like me, a big fan of the BMW e24 or 1980s 6 Series. The timeless design of this car has been recognized by endless articles and today it is a classic.

Before I describe this maginificent car to you, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a self described “obsessive compulsive perfectionist”, but in the good sense, if there is one! Or at least in matters related to my cars and motorcycles. I just like them looking and functioning like new all the time and tiny faults, dents, noises, strange sounds, cracks, dirt, missing parts or malfunctioning accessories annoy me to the point that I must fix them immediately. This BMW reflects that philosophy and is an example that is as close to new and original condition as you are likely to find in the market today. However, I can’t take all the credit for that, since the previous owners took great care of the car and spent a lot of money in doing so.

ABOUT THE BMW E24 6 SERIES AND THE SEARCH FOR THE PERFECT EXAMPLE

Ever since I first saw this car in the late 70s as a young kid I fell in love with it and over the years I have owned a few examples and later sold them due to one reason or another. The last one I had was a costly restoration that never ended up quite as I wanted it to, despite putting into it almost 30k. When I finally sold that car for a huge loss, I promised myself that my next e24 would have to be a pristine, as original as possible example, that would have been very well cared for during its life and that would require minimum repairs.

Over the years I rummaged through Ebay pages, classified ads, classic auto magazines and the like, looking for my dream e24 and the more I looked, the more specific became my idea of the vehicle that I wanted to find. My requirements grew to contemplate the following aspects amongst others:

1. Straight Body and Original Paint if possible, no accidents or previous damage of course

2. A rare color, not red, white, blue or bronze

3. The original OEM Metric Michelin Tires and Wheels, no 16s, 17s, or 18s aftermarket stuff or wheels from other BMW models, although due to the high cost and limited availability of the OEM tires, I reckoned this would be hard to find

4. It had to be a 635 and not a 630 or 633

5. Cardinal Red Leather Recaro Seats

6. Original Radio

7. Fully working systems and accessories

8. Service History

9. Reasonable Mileage

Although the picture of my ideal e24 was clear in my head, my search for this elusive car proved to be as I anticipated, a difficult one, until one day in August 2017, I found this car in the State of Massachussetts, bought it without a doubt and had it shipped to my residence in Miami, FL asap.

ABOUT THE CAR: THE OUTSIDE

This example is one that is as close to the original state in which it left the factory 33 years ago, as one could possibly conceive. It wears the original Dark Gray Metallic paint that still shines very well overall, it has no accidents. The original headlights, front spoiler, grill, turn signals, glass, emblems, rear taillights, wheels and bumpers and panels are all in 9.8 out 10 condition. The car comes with the original Michelin TRX Metric tires that were replaced at a cost of US$ 450 each and that have under 10k miles on them. The only accessory that I put on the outside of the car are a pair of very elegant and discrete Silverline Exhaust Tail Pipe Chrome Tips that complement the central Double Exhaust Tips of the car very nicely. The car sits straight and rides straight and true with no vibration, weird noises or knocks or lack of composure of any kind.

ABOUT THE CAR: THE INSIDE

The inside of the car is in beautiful condition. Both Front Recaro Seats were professionally reupholstered when I bought the car in August 2017 and are in perfect shape. The Original Headliner was professionally re-adhered as well at the same shop, as a small piece was lagging when I bought the car. The attached photos were taken before the headliner was foam cleaned and brushed, and thus the minor humidity marks that are seen in the pictures, are no longer present. The back seat wears the original leather which has lost a bit of its original shine and color, but there are no cracks, rips or tears whatsoever. I bought a color specific product that I will apply to the back seat leather before I ship the car to the new owner and therefore it will look a lot better than it does now by the time of the delivery or shipment. The car comes with the original Radio and speakers that work fine. Included with the sale is a Cassette adaptor which can be used to hook up your phone and access features like Bluetooth and Spotify.

All the controls and commands, be that of the Seats, Sunroof (Tilt and Open functions), Windows, Dash Switches, Central Locking, Electric Mirrors, Radio, A/C, Heater, Blower, Memory Buttons and Cruise Control work perfectly. The Dashboard is in a beautiful original condition with no cracks or tears. The one thing that I noticed recently is that the Headrest of the passenger seat will no longer go up and down when the corresponding button is pressed. It was working fine a few months ago and it just stopped working. The car has not been to the dealership since, so this fault has not been looked at although it should not be complicated or expensive to fix. Door panels and original mats are perfect shape as well. The car comes with the rather rare option of the Rear Sun Shade, that works fine and is in perfect condition. The interior carpets of the vehicle are as new, with no stains. The car comes with a complete set of OEM mats that are in very good condition as well.

Note: Although the A/C Unit in the vehicle works properly, it does not blow as cold as the A/Cs in modern vehicles. If works fine for when the temperature is at 85 F. or below, but above that, it will feel under powered.

ABOUT THE CAR: ENGINE

The 3.5 CC 182 HP Engine, looks good, is clean and drives like new, pulls strong, the car goes straight, brakes smoothly and firmly, ABS works properly as does the Cruise Control module. The Battery is a newer Unit and is probably good for a while. All cables, ducts and mechanical parts in the engine compartment are they should be, so the general impression is that this car was not messed up with and nothing was adapted during its life. The only visible flaw in the engine compartment are the under hood heat insulation pads that show some wear and tear, however I bought a new set and just never got the time to install them. The new pads will be included with the vehicle.

ABOUT THE CAR: TRUNK

The car comes with an almost complete OEM Tool Box, carpet is in as new condition, as is the Spare Tire. Original Car Jack is also included, as well as the Cover of the Car, that will also be included in the sale.

ABOUT THE CAR: SERVICE RECORD AND MISCELLANEOUS

This car comes with:

1. The Original Bill of Sale from “Worcester Imported Cars” of Worcester Mass. Dated 02.01.1986 for what was then US$ 38.300, equivalent to US$ 86.384 in today´s money.

2. Service Records since 2010, totalling more the 20.000 in repairs and parts

3. Feel free to look at the Carfax Report for additional service history

4. Original soft car cover

5. Original White Box with Cleaning Cassette and an Introduction to the Ultimate Driving Machine Cassette and Cleaning liquid

6. Radio Anti Theft Identification Card with Original Radio Code

7. Two Keys

8. New Under Hood Heat Insulation Pads, that were bought and never installed.

The last mayor expense on the car was a $ 800 to 900 dollar Alternator Replacement, done at Mike´s BMW Repair in Miami in July 2018. I will include the original Receipt with the car. The cost was expensive because the unit bought was an original OEM BMW part and not an aftermarket unit.

I have tried to describe this vehicle as specifically as possible and as you can see and appreciate, this is a special car and it is therefore not cheap. You know the saying "cheap cars are not good and good cars are not cheap". If you want this classic, go ahead and bid with confidence and don´t be scared of what your wife will tell you, you are buying it for you, not for her and finally, you deserve it! Remember, "it is always better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission"

Terms of Sale: The reason I am selling the car is because I will be spending most of my time in South America due to a work opportunity and the car will just deteriorate in Miami, even more so with the humidity there. I will be in Florida only from January 26 to February 1 and the sale of the Vehicle must be finalized during that time. I will gladly assist the Buyer with Shipping arrangements during that time. Be sure to know what kind of documents you will need in order to register the car in your State. A Bill of Sale was required in my case to register the Car in Florida. FInally, I reserve the right to cancel the Listing for any reason at any time.

Thanks for looking at the Listing and good luck!
