1974 BMW 2002 Turbo Description

1974 BMW 2002 TURBO

This 1974 BMW 2002 is one of 1,672 examples built and was reportedly imported from Sweden to the USA by its original owner in 1981. Power comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, and optional equipment includes a limited-slip differential, headlight washers, passenger-side mirror, rear seat belts, and Alpina wheels.

Finished in Chamonix White (085), the car features BMW Motorsport stripes on the air dam and side panels, a spoiler mounted on the rear deck lid, and a “turbo” badge on the rear panel. Corrosion is noted at the bottoms of both doors and rocker panels.

The interior is equipped with sport seats upholstered in black leatherette and features optional rear seat belts. A wood shift knob and Kenwood cassette radio were added by a previous owner. A split in the driver’s seat cushion is shown up close in photographs below.

The car retains a Turbo-specific 3-spoke steering wheel, red instrument surround with VDO gauges, and a separate boost gauge and analog clock mounted in the center dash. Approximately 37,600 kilometers are shown on the 5-digit odometer, which is believed to have rolled over once for an equivalent of 85k miles.

The trunk contains painted plywood floor panels covering a factory spare wheel with a March 1974 date code.

The turbocharged 2.0-liter M10 inline-four is backed by a Getrag 232 4-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. The car recently received a general check-up and new battery. Underbody photographs highlight suspension components including Bilstein struts and shocks.
