1973 BMW 2002tii with numbers matching engine, AC and 5-speed.
1973 BMW 2002 2002tii Description
1973 BMW 2002tiiVIN 2762963
1973 BMW 2002tii in red over black with matching numbers engine, AC and 5-speed conversion. Originally Sahara in color, this tii underwent an extensive/disassembled color change many years ago. Overall, paint is nice driver quality with some checking on roof and left c-pillar and other imperfections if scrutinized. Hella H4 headlamps with chrome fog lamps. Belt line aluminum trim is nice with only a few impressions. Knee trim excellent along with bumpers. Car retains it’s original, snorkel free, nose. There is no apparent rust aside from typical light surface areas on exhaust and suspension. The floors are immaculate wearing much of their factory paint with no undercoating to hide corrosion. Factory tii alloy wheels. The condition reflects a long life in California where it lived with valid blue plates until my purchase and shipment to North Carolina.
Interior features reupholstered e21 Recaro front seats. Rear seat also reupholstered with same materials in traditional 2002 pattern. Upholstery work is very well done. Dash is restored as new with no cracks. Clock works, lights up and keeps correct time. Later style front door panels are uncut and in excellent condition. Rear panels are as well. Original headliner shows minor discoloration at c-pillars. New Momo Heritage California steering wheel and black and white Coco mats. Cold R134 charged AC. Heater and AC blower motors work at all speeds. New Bluetooth radio with pod mounted front speakers and trunk amplifier. Door locks work correctly with ignition key.
Working odometer displays 129,636 miles. This will increase as car is currently registered and driven. Prior California title stated mileage to be original which condition of car supports. It was also stored by a 30-year owner for 10-years with no usage during that period. He passed away unexpectedly and a family friend purchased and kept for about 5-years with limited use. No smoke or oil consumption that I have noticed. Oil drip from timing cover. There is evidence engine has been rebuilt but no documentation. Tires are like new. Recent maintenance includes:
•Oil change with Valvoline VR-1 20W50 and Mann filter•Redline oil in transmission and differential•Water pump and hoses•Coolant system flush with DI water and antifreeze•OE muffler and chrome tip•Driveshaft center support bearing•Universal joints•Driveshaft balanced•Steering box seals•Distributor housing gasket•NGK spark plugs•Spark plug wires•Distributor cap and rotor•Pertronix electronic ignition
The matching numbers engine fires up quickly and settles to a smooth idle. There is no valve train clatter or other unusual engine noise. It pulls well through all gears. Beneath the valve cover, rockers look new with no discoloration or sludge build up. Suspension is tight and car handles well. Shocks are newer and differential has upgraded poly support bushings. The Getrag 245 5-speed has the preferred 3-bolt guibo. Shifting is precise with no grinds or popping out of gear. Car cruises easily at 70mph around 3000rpm.
This is a very nice tii with many driver oriented upgrades. It runs, drives and rides great. If you want to discuss the car or inspect it in person, I welcome both. I am a long time BMW CCA member and active on BMW forums. I love the stories that surround these cars and always enjoy exchanging them.
