1969 Buick GS400 Trumpet Gold black vinyl mostly original numbers matching
1969 Buick Skylark Description
There are additional photos at the bottom of the listing. If they don't load, et me know and I can give you the direct link.
Up for sale is my 1969 Buick GS400. It is a mostly original (except for paint) numbers matching true base GS400 with a Super Turbine 400 3 speed automatic transmission. It has the original interior. It originally came with a column shift and bucket seats but the previous owner installed a tilt column and console. It has a factory AM radio with power antenna (a dealer installed option, erified by the original window sticker). The radio does not work, ut the antenna does. It has a dash clock but that is not functional as well. The air conditioning works but has a leak. I can charge it at the beginning of the season and it will work great for a week, hen get lukewarm for the rest of the summer. The car includes documentation including original window sticker, wners manual, ill of sale, rotect-O-Plate, nd a pile of receipts for work done by previous owners. As near as I can tell, am the 9th owner.
Things that have been changed from original:
Installation of tilt column and floor shift/console by previous owner.
Swapping of original front power drum brakes to power disc brakes by me for safety reasons. I still have the original drums and backing plates which are included with the car.
Original front and rear control arms were swapped out with another set that were equipped with poly bushings at the same time as the brakes.
Springs were swapped out as well with NPD heavy duty springs for a small block 1969 Chevelle. As a result the front sits about a half inch lower due to the extra weight of the 400 but I like the rake. It does cause the front tires to rub in a turn. I'd have to look for them to be absolutely sure, ut I think I tossed the springs that were in it. The fronts were mismatched rates and the rears were some garbage aftermarket dual rate springs.
Original wheels and tires were swapped out with 15" Corvette rallies, lso from a 69 Chevelle (I basically swapped in all the running gear from my 69 when I took it down for a resto. Whatever original parts I still have for the GS are included in the sale). The rally wheels are period correct and were available as an option, lthough they would have been painted black and these are Argent Silver. I swapped out the Chevy derby caps for Buick caps. I originally used repro caps but they were not very good and I lost one. I had used the original rally wheel center caps when I created them, nd I still have three and they are included with the car. I still have the original 14" Buick rally wheels, nd they are currently being used as rollers for another project, o if the buyer wants these wheels they will need to provide me with another set of rollers, r perhaps if the buyer has a decent set of 18" Boss 338s or something similar with tires, e can work out a deal/partial trade.
Recent repairs (well, ecent enough. This is probably everything I've done to it in the last 6 years):
Remanufactured water pump (original style aluminum GM casting, ot new cast iron)
New power steering hose.
New paint (in 2010)
New front/back brake line from Right Stuff
New repro Delco Moraine brake booster with correct Delco stamp.
A few new stickers here and there.
new basic 2 1/2" aluminized exhaust with turbo mufflers from Summit.
The car is not perfect. It has a few things that need attention. The bumpers aren't perfect, hey have some small spots that need attention and probably should be rechromed and straightened. It has a chip and dent in the left fender from a jack handle that fell on it (and yes, cussed like a sailor, longshoreman, nd a drunken archaeologist all at the same time when it happened), t needs some minor interior attention (dash bezel needs painting, C vents need to be replaced or rechromed as the plastic chrome trim has worn off), t has oil leaking from the front seal on the oil pan. It probably should have all the vacuum lines replaced, oo - they don't leak but are hard from 40+ years under the hood. The trunk floor needs to be spatter painted. It was rusty from the usual GM A-Body back window leak, nd it has black SPI epoxy on it now. The car has lived inside since I bought it in 2008 so further rusting is not an issue.
The only rust rust I can find other than surface rust on the frame and such is a quarter sized hole forming on the driver side floor pan. That's all I could find and isn't enough to worry about, t least for me. Again, he car lives inside and rarely sees rain.
Also when they painted it they got overspray on the frame and exhaust. It will probably wipe off with lacquer thinner but I just haven't tried.
The tires are good, ut they are about 8 years old. You can see by the rear quarter panels that I have done my best to burn them off the car :-). Seriously though, t's not a quick car because has a 2.89 or some such rear end, aybe a 15 second quarter mile. I was getting high 9s in the 1/8 at the local track. The battery is 14 years old, ut I did the epsom salts trick a couple years ago and it holds a charge just like new, nd checks out good on a test.
Included with the car:
All parts that I still have from swaps/upgrades, ice California car cover (that is for a full-size GM, o it's kind of big, ut hey I got a stellar deal), he original rally wheels as long as the buyer can provide me with a set of GM bolt pattern project rollers with tires (tires don't have to be great, hey just have to hold air), LL the original documents that I have for the car.
The car is available for viewing on weekends and weekdays. I can accommodate most times during the day.
