1986 Buick Grand National Grand National Description
Vehicle Overview
1986 BUICK GRAND NATIONAL,10K ACTUAL MILES, 1 OWNER,TOTALLY STOCK AND ORIGINAL!! |
Up for sale is a 1986 Buick Grand National. First and foremost this is a 10k mile benchmark car. It is about as close to stock and original as you get. It is not one of the "new in the wrapper" Grand Nationals that have popped up for sale recently but this car can be driven and enjoyed and is about half the price. This car was purchased new at Stephens Buick in Dallas, Texas and has been in the same town until now. The owner bought this car when he was in his 60's and then the following year he purchased a new GNX from the same dealership and I have that car up for sale as well. Before the original owner passed away in the early 2000's, he sold both Grand Nationals to a friend of his. The friend drove them to his warehouse, parked them in the corner and they never moved again until now. The friend who was now 90 years old recently passed away himself and this is the first time that either car has ever been offered for sale!!!
This body of this car is 100% original paint with the exception of the bumper fillers, they were totally shot and I had no choice but to replace them. I used Spool Fools bumper fillers and the highesy quality ones available and match the paint on the car perfectly. The paint is in excellent condition and has some very minor blems but considering this is 33 year old Buick paint, it shows very well from every angle. It still wears the original 1986 Goodyear Eagle GT tires and even though they are rock hard and slighly flat spotted, they are only original once!!! The chrome wheels are in very nice condition and if I got hyper-critical with the car, one of the wheels has a small amount of rust under the chrome where it apears something dripped on the wheel and ate the chrome, but it is minor and does not detract from the overall excellent condition of the car.
Mechanically this car is 100% stock and original. The fuel was so varnished from sitting that it rotted internally, so I replaced the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel filter and sending unit. It still has the original exhaust system with the exception of the rear portion of the tailpipes. The old man did not like the side exhaust and had the pipes routed out the back like a Monte Carlo, so I had a muffler shop recreate the originals and it looks stock again. I had the Air Conditioning recharged and converted to R134A and it blows ice cold. The interior still looks new and everything works as it should. The car is totally rust free and has sat indoors in Dallas, TX it's entire life.
These cars have always been collectible but recently they have started to rise rapidly in price and there is no end in sight to where they are going in value. As tempting as it is to keep this gem for myself, I already have a GNX that I bought back in 2000 that occupies a space in my garage.
If you are looking for a blue chip collectible car while they are still reasonably priced then do not snooze on this one, it won't last long.
