1970 Buick Skylark Convertible L78 High Comp 350 Documented 51K miles GS NR!!!!!
1970 Buick Skylark Custom Convertible Description
On January 9th, 1970 Lou Swoboda walked into Jim Pattison Buick in Vancuver B.C. and ordered his 1970 Buick Skylark Custom convertible just the way he wanted it. The most important box he checked was that of L78/A8 as well as choosing the convertible option. That is what sets this car apart from the "Ordinary" cars of that year. Lou wanted a performance car, but didn't want to insure it as such! The standard motor for that year was the 350 2bbl, and a lucky few got a 4bbl shipped from the factory. However, Lou wasn't satisfied with average, he wanted a performance car so he ordered it as such! Buick rated this 350-4V at 315 horsepower and 410 lb-ft @ 3200 rpm's, which was only 45 rated horsepower shy of the mighty Stage 1. It has the same drive-train as the GS, but is MUCH more rare as they didsn't make many of these "Insurance Beaters" in 1970. The other nice thing about this car is the lack of boxes checked, especially the Air Conditioning!
I purchased the car from Lou's nephew and imported it into the USA. It immediately drew my attention the second it rolled out of the enclosed trailer. This car has never seen snow and certainly wasn't driven in the rain if only by mistake. It retains all it's original sheet metal and is documented back to day one. in the winter of 1989, Lou had the car repainted because he was very picky about the way his car looked. He also had the motor rebuilt along with the transmission and radiator. The car still retains factory inspection marks in the engine compartment! He also had the seat covers re-done, but the rest of the interior and top are all original and in incredible condition! I have ALL the receipts documenting the entire process. The car had approximately 40K on it at the time. When the nephew took ownership of the car, he had the entire power disc brake system replaced and added sway bars to make the car ride and stop like a dream. He was just as meticulous as his uncle.
Upon taking deliver of the car, I changed out the rims and tires to the 15 x 7 steelies and dog dishes you see on the car now. I purchased custom made radial red-lines from Diamondback classics out of SC. I had a custom made N-25 rear bumper fabricated and re-chromed and installed new tail-light lenses and bulbs. I also had a custom exhaust system made by Waldron Exhaust in MI with stainless N-25 tips. I had the original carb completely re-plated and restored as well as adding a custom made aircleaner. Stewart Warner Greenline electric gauge pod was also added under the radio. I also installed an NOS GS grille and Stage 1 emblems to finish things off. This is one of the nicest running and driving cars that I have owned and is a pleasure to drive anywhere. It is a no nonsense, needs nothing car that turns heads and lifts thumbs up wherever you choose to go!
I am only selling because another car that I have been following has been offered to me this winter. I don't need to sell my Skylark, but it would make up some room. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. The car is kept in my garage and is open to inspection at any time. I can help get the car ready for your transportation provider depending on my work schedule.
This car is sold "As-Is" "Where-Is" with no warranties either expressed or implied!
Thank you for looking and have a great day!!!!
