1963 Buick Electra Base Convertible 2-Door 6.6L
1963 Buick Electra Description
This rare unrestored Electra 225 convertible is an original 2-owner survivor that runs and drives very well. The original woman owner sold the car to the present owner in the 1970's and it has been driven less than 10,000 miles since 1976!
The car has been mechanically maintained on a regular basis and starts and runs well. It was recently driven about 200 miles over the July 4th weekend with no issues. Recent updates within the past few weeks include a new starter drive, fuel line, fuel filter and an oil change. The brakes work great, including the parking brake, and there are some newer lines present. The exhaust system is intact with a newer muffler, although there seems to be a typical small leak in the area of the exhaust manifold. The steering and suspension are solid. The tires are older bias plies with a lot of tread present but they should probably be updated before too long.
The exterior has had one repaint in the original red color. There is no obvious evidence of prior bodywork or accidents and the rockers and quarters show no visible signs or rust. The paint is thin in spots and faded with some typical scratches and mild dents present. There are some sizable rust holes in the floor pans under the seat (most likely from standing water from a leaky roof) and in the forward corners on the trunk floor. Other than that, the car is exceptionally solid and rides with no rattles or creaks. The frame appears solid. All the original bright trim is present and in good condition for its age. However, the lower outside corners of the rear bumper are dented, most likely from backing into immovable objects during some time in the cars 53 year history. All glass is in good condition and the head, tail, and turn signal lights are operational.
The interior appears to be all original with the optional leather seats in nice condition showing only normal wear and age with only a few small tears in the bolsters. The interior panels and carpet are also original. The drivers door armrest has a worn area as shown in the photos. The dash pad is in good condition with no cracks. The power top goes up and down smoothly but there are some rips and tears in the original top material which are growing larger with each top cycle. The rear window was apparently replaced at some point as it is exceptionally clear for the age of the car. The original top boot is present but is missing a few buttons and has a split seam.Being the top-of-the-line Buick in its day, the car is very well equipped with fully functional power windows, remote mirror, audible speed warning, and remote trunk release among other amenities. Items not currently functioning include the dash and interior lights (fuse?), windshield wipers, power seat, heater fan, radio and clock.
The engine runs strong and is complete including the original air cleaner with the "Wildcat 455" decals still present. There is some seepage at the seals and drops appear under the car from time to time. All major under-hood components, other than the battery, appear to be original equipment. The transmission is quiet and shifts smoothly.
Overall, this car is an exceptionally original example needing some metal in the floors, a new top, and some TLC. It will be sold with the original owners manual showing the original owners info as filled out by the selling dealer. The convertible top reference manual is also included. International bidders are welcome but transport is the winning bidders responsibility. However, I may be able to personally deliver the car within the U.S. for an agreed upon price.
Please ask any questions before bidding and I will try to answer promptly and to the best of my ability. Thanks for looking!
