1969 Cadillac Eldorado Description

A California Cadillac Eldo with history back to 2006. See black and yellow California plates in trunk picture.. The 3rd owner of this 1969 Cadillac Eldorado originally from California purchased the car in Nov 2006 with 36,950 miles and sold in Nov 2008 with 37,028 miles to a New York collector. Looking at the paperwork, it seems car was in storage until Dec 2014 when a full interior restoration was done along with trunk area costing 11 thousand!! Have invoice showing work done in New York. Then in April 2016 a transmission rebuild costing $3,200.00 at 37,497 miles. I have invoice showing trans rebuild. Also in a sales description, a valve job on engine was done, along with painting and detailing the engine and motor compartment with belts and hoses, carb work, new tires, dating March 2015.
This Eldo was then sold to a Georgia collector who i bought from him in April 2017 with 37,605 miles. Now in Chicago, i decided to repair the complete a/c system with a new compressor, poa valve and convert to R134 coolant. Cost was $2,427.00. Heat also works fine, cycling as it should on auto. Replaced the blower motor and fan with new.
Also removed the motor to replace leaking block freeze plugs. Replaced old style nylon teeth timing gear set with steel type. WHO HAD THE STUPID IDEA AT GM TO MAKE A PLASTIC TOOTH TIMING GEAR SET???? Of course to get to the timing gears all of the front end of motor came apart, so new valve cover gaskets, water outlet gasket, new thermostat, water pump gasket, timing cover gasket, front crank shaft seal, rear main seal, along with flushing the block, cleaning oil pan and new gasket. This motor runs cool and no leaks. New hood insolation pad installed. Always starts right up with 2 pumps of the gas pedal for a cold start. Choke idles motor down when hot as it should. Fast powerful Eldo, front disc brakes good idea from GM for this powerful model..Also changed old rubber cv boot on left side drive axle.
August 2017 new front brakes, rotors, calipers, pads, rubber flex hoses and flushed brake fluid.New front shocks, sway bar end links. Also rear new air shocks, with remote fill valve on bumper. Has air compressor under hood not running or connected, see engine pictures..
Tire still in good shape no cracking and rear drums and shoes fine, didn't change them..
Rebuilt carb, seeping gaskets and replaced old distributor vac advance canister.New cap and rotor and air filter. still running points, runs great. Didn't change plugs.TVS: thermo vac switch cracked and leaking, so ran vac line from carb to dist. vac advance. Adjusted timing here to chicago altitude, so just minor pinging at full throttle.. Use premium gas.Kept original tvs broken switch and vac lines in trunk if you want to go back to that emission type set up.Changed dim T3 low beam headlights to halogen, kept dim originals in trunk, has T3 high beams, working.Changed wiper blades to Anco stainless series kept old hard blades in trunk. Sometimes wipers will not go directly to park position, it takes a few extra sweeps to park under hood. Didn't try to open up wiper motor to check out small park switch. Maybe corrosion, needs cleaning or adjustment?
AM FM Radio works, front speaker not working, but single rear speaker sounds good, took power antenna apart and greased motor, antenna shaft moves up and down. Dash gauges work, interior and exterior lights work. Gas gauge works.
Sorry no cruise control on this Eldo, and horn not working. Has rim blow original steering wheel, not connected to horn circuit. Steering wheel in fair shape, not perfect plastic rim trim.. Cracked.
Replaced seized passenger rear window lift motor with new. Removed rear seat to get to motor. Cleaned pass and driver sides rear window tracks, greased and now both those small windows slide backwards easily. Front windows work well also.Put rubber type sound damping insolation panels under rear seats to quiet ride sound.Trunk was restored in New York with new carpet and side cardboard panels. No water leaking here its dry.. Original spare tire, see photo. Tire jack was cleaned and painted. Very clean trunk area. Has original trunk weather strip from factory still in soft condition. Front and rear windshield / glass no leaks.
Interior was redone in New York, invoice says leather reupholstered, new carpet. Headliner looks original, dash pad no cracks, rear seat area great. But drivers pull on door, vinyl cover is loose and arm rest on drivers door panel cracked. Passenger side door panel in excellent shape. Center arm rest on bench seat fine. Open the doors and this Eldo smells like a new car, shut the doors and they close like a bank vault, a very solid thunk sound... Has original door and roof rail weather strip. A non smokers car. Has original front and rear seat belts. Quiet inside when cruising.
Looks like under car was under coated, gas tank bottom has clean rust free metal, floor pans no rust or damage. All glass very good condition, chrome fair, not perfect with some pitting, see photo, driver front bumper has scratches, but bright work trim around doors, halo roof and windows nice. Body line (gold color) moldings there, not cracked up.
Black halo vinyl top original good condition, with minor rust bubble at side passenger rear window, along with gold paint bubble at trim line. See photo. Looks like original lacquer Gold Fire Mist factory paint, don't see any over spray from a repaint job. Straight body, no rust issues other than by the halo top passenger rear window trim. Paint was cleaned by clay, then buffed out to a pretty good shine. Small crack at rear driver trunk edge, see photo. A few scratches and chips on body by quarters, but overall original lacquer paint still shines, but not to the degree of a show car. Top of hood and trunk faded, but not that ugly. Its original paint job shows it history and i didn't want to strip it away with fresh paint.
So that's the history and condition of this Gentleman's muscle car from 1969. A handsome looking model with a black halo roof, and black pinstripes tracing the body lines out. Fast but with air conditioning and luxury, a real head turner.. No squeaks or rattles when cruising. Inspections welcome, located at Skokie, IL 60077. (A nearby suburb just 20 minutes from Chicago, Il )
Please ask for a test drive or arrange for an appraisal company to inspect condition. If you buy this Eldo and have an inspection done to prove its condition, i will pay for the appraisal. That's how confident i am about the condition, mechanically and appearance. No disappointments, a really nice Eldorado..How many listings have you seen that go into this much detail and information about the car you are interested in? This Eldo is nice and worth your time. Come test drive it.. Thanks, Steve.
