1979 Cadillac DeVille D'Elegance Description

There are showhorse classics, and then there are workhorse classics.
This 1979 Cadillac Deville D'Elegance is most definitely a workhorse classic. My wife and I used this vehicle for movie shoots in and around the metro-Atlanta area. It always looked the part of what a Cadillac of this era was intended to be for its time, and since it wasn't red, white or black (colors that stick out during filming), it received plenty of exposure in those film productions that recreated the 1970s and 1980s.
We have enjoyed taking this piece of Americana out for these events. But today I sell it, and therefore I'm going to give you the full lowdown on the vehicle.
This is not a daily driver. No, really. You can't give this car to your grandson and expect the car to be as reliable as a modern car. In fact, it's a 37 year old Cadillac which means it's like a garden here in North Georgia. It always needs a little something.
Since we've had it, I have replaced the headliner, the starter, the fender fillers, I repainted it, and I have routinely topped off the fluids every month. It doesn't smoke or hang out with the bad boys. But it's by no means a creme puff. It has small dings, dents, scratches, and the headlight bezels that hold the lights in place have become cracked. This is an old car that has spent most of its time garaged. But there is what can only be called, "A little this. A little that." which comes from maintaining a car from the Malaise Era. From the one bright light on the front that won't work. To the surface rust on the rear fender. To the fluid leaks that are just plain inevitable with a 37 year old Cadillac. This car will bring a smile to the owner. But it will also require an owner who is familiar with the care that's needed for an older car from the 1979.
It takes about 10 to 15 seconds for the engine to start cold because, eventually, it is going to need the carb rebuilt which will likely cost between $150 to $300. It's the original, and I'm willing to bet that the new owner will probably for a modern one anyhow. Once it starts from cold, the Deville will always instantly start up at the turn of the key for the rest of the day.
The power seats all work as do the mirrors, and the windows work fine as well. Carpet is in very good shape and there is very little wear given the age. Front seats have minor rips (see pictures), the rears are perfectly fine. Tires are virtually brand new and the D'Elegance runs like an absolute top on the highway. The air conditioning is inop. We got it with the hoses worn between the condensor to the compressor, and the evaporator to the compressor. I haven't tried the compressor but I'm sure it will need to be replaced. The aftermarket radio and speakers work perfectly fine, and all the doors, trunk and hood have no trouble opening or closing. Although sometimes I will get the trunk ajar light.
I have 100% positive feedback on Ebay and the reason is simple. If you don't like the car, you don't have to take it. It's as simple as that. I try very hard to cover every little thing I can think of which is why this listing now has about 13 paragraphs between the condition portion and the detailed description. Do not try to re-neg on the deal. This is a Cadillac and I grew up in the heart of northern New Jersey. I know how to put these cars to good use!
