1957 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan Only 28,920 Original Miles! Freshly Restored Special Order Color In Storage From 1961-2011 VIDEO WITH LISTING VIN: 773-273-8257 This ‘57 Series 62 has a particularly interesting history. We purchased the car from a gentleman who, in 2011, had winched it out of a barn where it had sat since October of 1961. The previous owner had put it away fifty years earlier in his backyard barn in a Chicago suburb, only to have a tree fall on the barn in 1966... and trap the Cadillac in there. The guy we bought the car from had handwritten records documenting the whole experience and the subsequent cleaning and wrenching to get the car back on the road. He did quite a bit of mechanical work, shampoo’d the hell out of the interior, then began adding mileage on the car. He didn’t tackle the bodywork and paint; which the car did need after fifty years of stuff falling onto it and rubbing up against it. We had the body restored and painted its correct, special order color shortly after purchasing it. We’re told that when the car was winched out of the barn, he first had to cut the trees blocking the doors of the barn. The car’s brakes were frozen, engine was initially thought to have been locked up (but was later freed), and the interior was packed full of random junk, having been used for storage space. When the car was taken out of storage it had just 26,400 original miles on it. Since undergoing a thorough mechanical overhauling after its release from extended storage, the car has been driven just over 2000 miles. As it sits, this is a truly impressive car. It runs and drives tremendously well and really does feel like the low-mile, largely-original car that it is. The car will be sold with a handful of service receipts from 1960, extensive handwritten records of its 2011 recommissioning, an owner’s manual, a receipt for the body/paint work, as well as some more recent mechanical service receipts. Exterior: - Please see the video accompanying the listing, as it shows the car in detail. - Paint was done to a high standard in 2018 at Albany Auto, renown in the Chicago area for excellent body and paint work. Paint was a special order color when new, and looks extremely similar to Ford’s Phoenician Yellow. The car has been driven only a little bit since being painted, so the paint presents tremendously well, with no chips or scratches anywhere. - Chrome was not refinished, and presents very nicely. There is one spot of oxidation, and that is on the front bumper. That is shown close-up in the video of the car. - Glass and light lenses are all clear and crack-free. Lights and signals are all functional. - Chrome hubcaps and whitewall tires (new in 2012) are both in great shape. No curb rash, no discoloring of the whitewalls. Interior: - Original interior is in great shape. It has never been restored with the exception of the carpet being replaced, rather, thoroughly shampoo’d and cleaned when the car was taken out of long-term storage. The coloring looks a bit odd in the photos of the car due to the lighting of our showroom, but looks just right in person. The video will give a good look at it. - Very little for observable wear in the interior. Condition is consistent with a 28k mile car. There are some very minor water marks in the light grey seat bottom, which is visible in the interior photos. Very minor, but worth noting for a show-level car. - Chrome-heavy dash is in excellent shape. No oxidation. Power windows are functional, as are all gauges. Original radio is not. Fan is functional, as are the interior lights. Top of the dash pad shows some slight wrinkling near where it meets the windshield. - Door panels are in nice shape, with no kicked-open markings or damage. Under the Hood / Underbody: - In the winter of 2011/2012, the car was treated to a thorough mechanical going-through. This included but was not limited to replacement of the following: Points, plug wires, condenser, ignition switch, oil filter, battery, fuel tank refinishing, brake lines, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, carb rebuild, fuel filter, fuel pump, thermostat, water pump rebuild, tires, differential seal, trans fluid, complete exhaust system, distributor cap, and front shocks. - Original drivetrain, engine number 773-273-8257, and 4spd Hydramatic automatic transmission. - The car runs and drives extremely well. Truly no tendencies of any concern. The car rides every bit as well as you would hope from such an original, low mile example. There is no hesitation under acceleration, the car shifts nice and smooth, and brakes well. It stays cool, is dead silent and stable at speed, and has a very forgiving suspension. - Please see the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. Underbody is in great shape, with no through rust or anything even close to it. Structurally excellent.
