1988 Cadillac Brougham Description

A lifetime North Texas 1988 Cadillac Brougham, fifth owner, with 80000 original miles. This one's tough to part with, but as they say, "happy wife, happy life." The pictures speak for themselves.

Originally silver in color, the car was repainted approximately five years ago by the third owner with a custom House of Kolor Pearl White paint, and it is in excellent condition. That owner had the intent to create a full custom car with hydraulics, but ran out of money before the car got cut up in this process. After a rancher in East Texas bought it and held it for a couple years, I bought it in 2015.
I have replaced the original dark grey leather seating and door panels which were cracking with light grey interior door panels and seats from 1981 Brougham d'Elegance. While the shades are not matching, the vehicle still looks correct and classy. 15" factory appliance wire wheels were also put on from the 1981 d'Elegance donor car, and a full size spare is in the trunk. The car does not have the factory jack...so the tire iron and 2 ton hydraulic jack in the trunk is being sold with the car.

This car has been garaged at all times, with around 1000 miles per year driven. The air is cold, converted to R-134A. A period correct stereo head unit has been re-installed (it had an aftermarket head unit in anticipation of a full audio conversion), and I have had a 3.5mm jack hard wired into it (the car has a cassette head unit, and will come with a second non-cassette Brougham specific radio with same 3.5mm jack), and all electronics are functioning, including the level ride system and trunk pull down. The car has an aftermarket antenna mounted to the inside of the windshield, as the power antenna mount and hole were shaved and filled in the repainting process. Please note - the 1981 donor vehicle had memory seats, and this one does not, so those switches in the left door panel are inoperative. Since 2015, the carburetor (2015), five new tires (2016), dry cell battery (this month), O2 sensor and full tune up (2016), and radiator (2017) have been replaced.
I have also saved various parts from the 1981 that will come with the car (rear tail lights, grill - which was the same in 1981 as in 1988, various chrome pieces).

It's as close as one will get to a factory out of the wrapper new car considering the mileage. In the interest of full transparency, the following are the items prohibiting it from brand new condition:
-Vinyl top has been repaired and re-dyed in 2015. It appears to have dried out from the Texas heat and sun. The top is very presentable, I've cleaned it up as best as possible, and a fresh cleaning with a coat or two of Mop N' Glo makes this top a three footer, but a full recovering would make this perfect. Also, should that be done, the electroluminescent opera lamps would need to be repaired as they are inoperable.-Minor oil and transmission leaks. I have driven the car approximately 1000 miles a year since 2015, and I would say a maximum of a half pint of each is lost to minor leaks every six to eight weeks. It's so minor that the newspaper on the ground and occasional top off is far better than tearing the engine and transmission apart to find it. For reference, the last trip in this car was this past week on a 100 mile round trip in Dallas traffic (three plus hours) specifically to check this ahead of listing it, and there was no appreciable change in fluid levels.
-Two very minor dash pad cracks are present near the defrost vents.-A fresh exhaust system would be an added bonus, but certainly is far from a requirement.-Brake pad indicators are whistling (but there is no rotor vibration).-Intermittent left front speaker operation.-Intermittent check engine light, code 23. This is due to the carburetor rebuild (mixture control solenoid), and only illuminates very seldom at idle, normally coming off the freeway at 75 MPH (and quickly clears upon acceleration). I have a lifetime warranty on the professionally rebuilt carburetor, and if the new owner wants that changed before shipment, I will do so myself. Frankly, I never bothered as it is so seldom that it's not a nuisance, it's never come on enough to bother me, nor has it ever prohibited a passing state inspection.-A.I.R. system has been removed. The pump seized, and rather than shopping for a new one, I removed the entire system and plugged the brass feeder holes in the exhaust manifold. Those parts are in a landfill in Melissa.
-Missing Thermac/carburetor heater hose.-Slight chrome chip on left rear bumper end. I've used silver paint to cover the steel to prevent rusting, it's very small (1/2" by 1" or so), and is in the very corner, so it's not noticeable.
-Velour seating could use a proper cleaning.
