For sale is a 1976 Cadillac Coupe deVille with factory Cabriolet roof. The car shows 59,977 miles and is set to go to 60,000 soon.Believed to be original, certainly not 160,000 miles. Speedometer and odometer work. Condition isoriginal with usual warts from 40 + years being around. Please note I honestly describe my cars. I do not hide anything. I just do not know much about this car except for me driving it for leisure.
I am in Des Moines, Iowa. The car was offered to me locally and I went to see it and drive it. Drives like a 60,000 mile mid 70's Cadillac. The battery was not good, so I have purchased a new battery and it starts well. (New battery is $190) Tires and brakes work like they should but I have not inspected.
To be honest, this 'garage queen' has not been driven much by the previous owner or I in the last several years.
Here is what I know:
There is rust under the sides and some areas in back of the factory cabriolet top. If you are one of those collectors that must have perfection in this era of Cadillac, this car is not for you. Please feel free to purchase a $15,000 to $25,000 car but inspect even that very carefully. I paid $5800 for this car. Sellers on ebay etc never reveal price, I guess, because they think they can make money on the car. Then it sits in endless ebay cycle never selling, never any adjustment of price - you've seen those cars.
I need to sell this car for personal reasons, dissolution of marriage. I have debt on this car. I got an $11,000 loan from an on-line bank and bought this Cadillac and a 1993 Allante because I was going to tag team them in use with the Cadillac LaSalle Club regional and national events.
The rust has likely been there for 20 + years with little change. There is no rust in the lower body, no rust perforation that I can see and no body damage. I did notice the front bumper end on the passenger side looks pushed in and there is evidence of some incorrect towing in this regard. (Again, I saw this when I bought it and do not need to disclose, but want full disclosure.
The plastic body fillers all look fine, feel fine and supple, so maybe they were replaced.
I believe the color is Cotillion White, with a red pinstripe. This is a factory SO car, because of the red piping in the seats.
The car is considered "triple white" by virtue of use of that term. It has white paint, top and interior.
The interior is good original. Both doors had tears in white vinyl near the top but no "chunks" missing. The drivers seat still feels fine when I drive it, but shows patina. There are no rips in the seats. Dash is fine, no cracks. Glass is all good. Carpet is fine, original with usual 60,000 mile wear but no real fade.
This car likely has always been in a garage for storage.
Cotillion white paint shows some dulling but to me is fine and with use of that new acrylic wax would likely pop right up. Chrome is fine. There are attachments to bumper guards, some trim, etc that is not flush, owing to it's unrestored 43 year old existence.
Back seat looks like no one has ever sat in it. I guess this is highly optioned, not sure. Power seat works, not sure it might have power passenger seat. Power windows work. All wheel covers are in place, comes with 2 high end car covers.
Engine bay has not been modified, upgraded. The 500 just sits in there normal. I have done nothing to it. Previous owner put in a new alternator.
A/C does not work, but the compressor does engage. Few $5600 Cadillacs of this era or around it have functioning working A/C units. There is no damage to the A/C system. No visible leaks underneath the car.
Comes with clear Iowa title, no encumbrances.
Starting bid is a legitimate $100. If you check my auction history you will see that I ran two car auctions last month on ebay that started at $100. Both of these auctions ended and I was charged $200 + by ebay and BOTH buyers reneged and I let them out by cancelling the auctions. PLEASE no zero feedback bidders. I want to transfer ownership of these vehicles and recoup as much of my investment as possible. I won't get much, but the goal is to move cars, not play ebay games.
Both cars are on Craigslist and 2 old car forums.
Please compare to other auctions which lack detail and honesty, hide the rust issues around the vinyl tops until it's too late. But please, please please simply bid what you feel the car is worth, get it at a good price and enjoy the heck out of it. All collector cars have some issues. This one has so many positives. You can't begin to duplicate a $100 car for what I paid for this car. Paint is an 7.5 and needs no paint for a long time, maybe ever. Chrome is great, great glass and presentable original features interio, no leaks, good performance from a legendary engine, true 1976 Cadillac beauty for pennies on the dollar in a unique triple white package with SO interior! Wow.
My listing fee is $68.00! This will be the only time for sale on ebay because of high fees. I am a hobbiest, not a business.
On Dec-14-19 at 14:18:45 PST, seller added the following information:Got the CdV out today when I installed the new battery. It's 8 deg F here in Iowa. Installed new expensive battery, started right up and quiet as a Christmas church mouse. Pulled it out and took more photos including some photos which may not help me get a maximum price but I would prefer to be honest.
Small 2 inch tear in front seat vinyl consistent with 43 years of age.
Passenger rear bumper has some rust as seen.
Surround for antenna is not there.
Photos of clean non rusty engine bay consistent with owner care, dusty but clean.
Data plate for your review.
I "asked" the power accessories to move. Power door locks work, power windows work with no effort.
Power seat worked. Has original Cadillac floor mats. Some sun fade to the drivers seat belt fabric.
New alternator there, now new battery. PLease note it has been converted to R134a so that part is taken care of. Heat worked great today, brakes, lights. What a quiet pleasure.
Drove it effortlessly around the block. Then back into my garage.
Note mileage appears to be 59, 802, not 59,977
