1957 cadillac series 60 fleetwood base 6.0l
1957 Cadillac Fleetwood Description
Cadillac Fleetwood . Condition is Used.I purchased this car about 15 years ago. Upon purchase, I drove it from Chicago, Illinois to my home in Youngstown, Ohio. About 400 miles. The car performed perfectly with no issues. Over these years, I often took it on small trips generally no more than 100 miles round trip with no issues.
This car is a survivor. I believe it has never been repainted. However there are spots where there has been some touch up. I have done some repairs over the years. I have modernized the power brakes, replaced to radio with a modern radio and power antenna, replaced the headlight switch,
The car is not perfect. The issues that need to be addressed are - the air conditioner is not working. It is factory air, which is rare for 1957. It worked when I purchased the car, and it no longer comes on when I slide the switch. All parts are there, I believe it could be as simple as a fuse. I never had it looked at. The power steering gear box is cracked and leaks power steering fluid. It may be able to be welded. I priced one, and it was about $500 for a replacement including the core. We had a heavy rain and I left the windows open one night. I removed the carpet to keep the floor from rusting. It really needed a new carpet anyway. A new carpet can be purchased for about $250. The seats have seat covers. These were professionally installed many years before I owned the car. I believe they are leather and if you didn't know better you would think that they are original. The power windows all work, however they are slow, I'm not sure if all they need are the brushes to be cleaned or what they would need to bring them back to full power. Lastly, the brake pedal needs a spring. The brakes work fine, however without the tension it causes the brake lights to be on when driving. Also, this can cause the battery to die if left down over night..
This is a great vehicle for for being 63 years old. I have tried to to be honest about all that is in need of repair. I have permanently moved to the Florida Keys. We have a small yard and no garage. we have salt water and salt air down here. These are not optimal conditions for this vehicle. Personally, it's killing me to sell this car, now that i'm getting near retirement, I now have the time to restore it. This is a very solid car and a great car for restoration.
