1969 Chevrolet Caprice IMPALA CAPRICE Description

1969 Chevrolet Caprice 2 Door Hardtop...Factory 427...Turbo 400...12 Bolt...Power Front DiscBrakes...Power Door Locks......Bucket seats and console...AM/FM radio....Original Black and Yellow Plate California Car.....these are the license plates issued to the car in 1969 when it was sold new at De Anza Chevrolet in Riverside, California...I bought the car in 1975 and have owned it since then....The car istitled and registered in California...but not with these plates....I will include the current California plates in the sale.....The car is currently located in Helena, Montana....

The car was originally dark green with a light green interior....It is now painted blackand the interior has been painted/dyed black.....The car has the following options....

427 LS1 335HP LE Code.....Original engine from air cleaner to oil pan (see photo of engine stamp)

Tilt Steering Wheel N33...there are some cracks in the plastic body of the wheel...

Remote mirror D33 - the control knob is missing from the mirror...

Front and Rear Bumper Guards V31

Power windows A31...all of the windows work....the right rear needs adjustment to keep it from dropping too low

AM/FM Radio U69....not working

Original 55 amp alternator.....

Comforton Air Conditioning...C75...this system which uses air sensors and a thumb wheel to set the temperature is in place but is not working....thecompressor is not seized....F40 suspension installed with AC which includes a Panhard Bar....

Power Door Locks A93...these are not working...the system uses avacuum can, which is in place, and vacuum lines which will need to be replaced....

The original Turbo 400 had a street level shiftkit installed in 1976...the car has an aftermarket trans cooler which has been in place since I purchased the car...the shift linkage from the console needs some adjustment....

The car still has thefactory originalsingle exhaust pipe system....a new muffler was installed in 1975..

California cars built in 1969 with an automatic transmission and a closed element air cleaner did not haveto have smog pump or a charcoal canister....the car has a PCV valve only....the exhaust manifolds do not have smog pump holes....

12 Bolt rear end......2:73 ratio (open)

Recent work....New Battery 5/16....Gas tank flushed and sealed...new sending unit....new fuel pump 5/15...I used a later sending unit whichcauses the fuel gauge needle to register more movement when the car is being driven....New Monroe Gas-Matic rear shocks 8/16 (these were installed after the frame pictures were taken).....new upper ball joints...new power steering box and power steering pump8/16...I will include copies of receipts for parts and work done on the car in the sale....

The paint is driver quality and has scuffs, marks and scratches ....the area bunch of spots on the top, hood and trunk lid from tree sap....an area of bondo is visible on the drivers' side door....there is a small dingat the left sideof the rear bumper....the front fenders have been repaired in the usual spots at the lower rear edges...this was done properly with metal patches welded in.....2 small dings over the left front wheel well...

The windshield wipers are not working properly....this is the wrong motor....it should have a pump assembly....when the power is connected, the motor runs but will not shut off....the power is now disconnected to the wipers...I will continue to try and fix this while the car is for sale...

To be used as a driver, the car needs to have the control arm bushings and the lower ball joints replaced....the rubber bushings in the front torsion bars and sway bar are dry and should probably be replaced too...... The frame has the usual surface rust...the bodymount bushings are dry....the floors are rust-free....a freeze plug shown in the pictures should be replaced....

The seat covers, seat foam and headliner will need replacement for a restoration....the carpets...dash pad and door panels are driver quality.....the weather stripping around the doors is dried out and cracked.....the car has after market seat covers in place...

There is an area of surface rustat the very front of the dash and a couple of small holes at the ends....see photos....the car had a vinyl top and when it was removed, I think this allowed moisture to reach this area...to properly repair this, the windshield may have to come out.....there is a small repaired areain the channel above the left trunk hinge (see photos)

All of the glass is original....

Good tread on all 4 matched tires.... 235.75 x 15......Rally wheels are in good shape....

The trunk is rust free and has most of the original splatter paint in place....photos show the trunk with the reproduction mat removed and with it in place....the trunk seal is a reproduction.....the spare does not match the other 4 tires....

The cars shows 84,000 miles on the odometer....currently not working....speedometer works......the car wasparked outside in California for many years and has beengaragedin Montana since 2004....I estimate the mileage at about 120K.....

Solid car for a driver or restoration.....good candidate for an SS upgrade....titled, tagged and insured....
