1954 Chevrolet Belair Convertible
1954 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 Description
Up for auction is this incredible jet black convertible with a finish as close to a museum quality as I have ever seen. The car is an American car that was purchased years ago by a fellow in the Okanagan Area of British Columbia, which is referred to as Canada's desert. The car was stored for many years in its original condition and then purchased by an acquaintance who had the car prepped for new paint. The car was a tan color and they planned on changing it to red but after sanding and realizing how straight the body was they opted to go black and the choice paid off with an exception look.
The car was not a frame off project and the underside was not fussed with at all but I was told to the best of his knowledge there was no bodywork required. The cabin floor has a coating of undercoating top and bottom but this appears to have been done quite a while ago. One small patch on the hump indicates there may have been a floor shift removed. Nothing was painted over on the underside so you can just see how it was and is.
As you can see by the pictures everything is very straight. The red insert along with the red and white interior just sets this car in its own category. The top is new and so are the rams and convertible top motor. Stainless is all excellent and the stainless stone guards give a look of bigger more expensive car. Bumper and accessory chrome is perfect. The side window frames are original and have some minor pitting. Glass is all good!
Power train is a 400 small block with Rochester 4 bbl/ electric choke that starts and runs dependably and has great oil pressure. Transmission is 350 automatic that shifts smoothly and rear end is Malibou with higher gears so great for cruising. Front has a Mustang clip with disc brakes and power steering rack. Brakes work well but are not power assisted. Hand brake ratchet is mounted beside the drivers seat. New exhaust system is 2" pipe with turbo mufflers and stainless tips that just extend a bit past the bumper. The radiator is a brand new build and block has a 160 thermostat. Highway driving the tempature runs at at 160-170 and in town driving is at around 180.
It has a new electric wiper motor in case you get caught in the rain, new retro Dolphin gauges that work well and set off the black and red dash nicely. Vents and heater work also. The original radio was converted to 12 volt and is OK as long as you don't mind AM radio. Tail lights are LED.
Cragar Star Wire wheels really finished the look of this beauty set with Coker Classic P235/75R15 rears and P225/75R14 on the front. In short this car is a real beauty and a driver as well.
