Sometimes simple is good. This 1966 Chevelle 300 is, literally, brilliant proof of that philosophy. With a distinct lack of flashy graphics or questionable body modifications clouding its intense Hugger Orange paint, this Chevy stands out not because of what's there, but because of what isn't. Of course, to pull off a great car like this, everything you do HAS to be flawless. From the bodywork, to the powertrain, to the interior, there's simply nowhere shoddy workmanship can hide. Mixing 572 cubic inches of GM Performance Parts V8 with a professional grade driveline, thoroughly updated chassis components and ultra clean aesthetics, this exceptional sedan is an all-American stunner. And if you're looking for a unique classic that's road ready, show-ready and just plain battle-ready, it's the perfect way to prowl the scene and bruise a few egos!

BODYWORK/TRIM

First off, kudos to the guy who chose this basic 300 2-door sedan instead of a garden-variety hardtop. There's nothing we like more than a sleeper; although it could be argued that a glowing A-Body with a 572 cubic inch big block is hardly stealthy. Right? Right. That said, you really can't argue with the clean lines of the 300 series, and this car retains 100% of its original factory sheetmetal with the exception of a steel cowl induction hood. Naturally, that metal was blasted bare before reconstruction started. To get the car as straight as it is must have taken hundreds of hours of laboriously sanding, filling, fitting, and adjusting. The paint, sourced from PPG, is so deep and rich that it looks like the body itself was made from some kind of exotic Hugger Orange matter. And there's no metallic, pearl or glitter to mask simple and proven aesthetics that, in a nutshell, simply work.

A quick look at our high resolution photos reveals trim and ornamentation that remain mostly as the General specified. At the front of its body, a professionally chromed grille hangs modern halogen headlights and a prominent emblem above a professionally chromed bumper that's complete with small parking lamps. At the top of the car, the aforementioned cowl induction hood leads like-new glass that's caged in straight stainless frames and capped windshield wipers. At the sides of the car, traditional door handles and a polished bowtie mirror reflect subtle fender emblems and tasteful 300 quarter badging. And out back, simple taillights and a second professionally chromed bumper frame a broad "CHEVELLE" valance script.

ENGINE

Without being too specific or too general, if you'll allow me to turn a phrase from the last paragraph, it's safe to say this Chevy's fairly stock body hides a fairly radical drivetrain. Toss the tall hood and you'll find one of the largest big blocks GM has ever created: a 572 cubic inch monster that cranks out more than 600 horsepower! Breathing through a custom-fabricated air intake, the mammoth motor is a literal torque factory. Translation: you really shouldn't try to use first or second gear unless the car is aimed exactly where you want to go. Visually, the engine bay takes a decidedly different path than the 300 body, showcasing some serious visual flash in the form of color-keyed Proform valve covers, a fab-ed and polished radiator, and a polished serpentine system that's finished with a chrome alternator, a coated water pump and a chrome AC compressor. All wiring, including hot MSD ignition, has been artfully hidden behind smoothed fenders that, along with the car's hood and firewall, have been polished to the same high standards as the rest of its body. Speaking of the firewall, an integrated power brake booster is both seamless and cool. And trick details abound, including custom Lemons long-tube headers, polished billet overflow cans, electric cooling fans, braided hoses and a full array of polished hardware.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Behind the killer big block, a McLeod hydraulic clutch engages a modern Tremec 5-speed. That transmission's case and bellhousing have been fully polished to match a Tremec-prepped driveshaft, which jerks a narrowed and coated Currie 9-inch that's finished with stout, 3.50 gears. That driveline hangs amid adjustable QA-1 coil-overs, sandwiched between tubular control arms, and 3-inch lowering springs, complemented by a beefy sway bar and billet Metco control arms. Requisite power steering combines with GM calipers, Baer calipers, and drilled, slotted and zinc-coated rotors to keep everything lucid and under control. The 2.25-inch headers dump spent gases in to a ceramic-coated, 3-inch exhaust system that features stainless Borla mufflers. The car's quality detailing continues with body-matched floors, and a filled and sanded frame that's sealed in Eastwood Satin Black chassis paint. And everything rolls on 17-inch Budnik Famosas, which spin 225/55R17 Goodyear Eagle RS-As in front of 255/55R17 Goodyear Eagle RS-As.

INTERIOR

Between the doors, low-back Corbeau buckets sport awesome Black and Orange Houndstooth upholstery. In front of those seats, a reworked dash plants Vintage Air climate control and a full array of Auto Meter analog telemetry in rich Hugger Orange paint. Black Daytona Weave carpet looks right at home under billet foot pedals, a tall Hurst shifter and large kick speakers. Those speakers lead custom door panels, which hang billet handles under modern power windows. In front of the driver, a half-wrapped Budnik wheel laps a tilting Ididit column. And behind the passengers, a tastefully finished trunk hides two Optima gel cell batteries next to full Custom Autosound audio.

It's impossible to guess how many hours it took to construct this amazing Chevy. But, given the lengthy list of equipment that went in to its build, our asking price probably wouldn't even cover the components, let alone labor. At first glance, the car appears to be a basic and simple piece, but an acute attention to detail and amazing quality grab your attention almost instantly. All that said, one thing is certain: bold and brutal, there's no hiding how brilliant this Chevelle is when you're behind the wheel.
