The 1969 SS396 offered here is unique in a number of ways, a primary one being that it is actually an import. Yes, sold new at Lyle Chevrolet in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, this is one of 769 L34 Chevelles produced in Canada for U.S. sale in 1969, and comes complete with GM of Canada paperwork. Furthermore, the car has only 29,000 miles with its original L34 396/350 HP engine still between the front fenders. The L34 struck a nice balance with 10.25:1 compression, a 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust; the engine in this car has the open-element air cleaner. Behind this is a TH400 automatic transmission and a track-friendly 4.10:1 Positraction rear end, which was not the common choice for this driveline combination. Adding to the driving accommodations are power brakes with front discs. This car features one repaint in factory Fathom Green, with chrome outside mirror on the driver’s side, chrome exhaust tips, SS396 emblems, and factory road wheels featuring SS center caps with Goodyear Polyglas tires. The interior is very well appointed with black vinyl bucket seats with adjustable headrests, center console with horseshoe shifter, column-mounted tach, under-dash auxiliary gauges and radio. Overall, the packaging on this car is attractive, with its wheels and brightwork being the major exterior accents. With provenance to its constructed origins and packaging in one of the most popular body designs this model was produced in, this ‘Canadian’ Chevelle offers many benefits to its future owner.
