Very Rare 1969 Collectible Trophy Winning Corvair Monza Convertible. Show AND Go in this fun to drive classic.
You'll be grinning ear to ear zooming around in this very rare 1969 Corvair convertible. Featuring the more powerful and smooth running 140hp air-cooled flat-six 4 barrel engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission, posi rear-end, independent four wheel suspension, front air dam and 14" Torque Thrust wheels with new tires, this rare example is one of the last Corvair convertibles ever built. One of only 541 convertibles built out of a total 6000 car production run, this example was assembled close to the end of the production run in May of 1969. Rarer still is this color and options/drivetrain combination and may just be a one-of-a-kind. But more than just go, as a multiple trophy and award winner this remarkable unrestored car is also all about show. You'll be the hit at car shows with smiles and stories abound.
With its rear mounted engine, low center of gravity and just the right amount of manual steering feel this car is a blast to drive and rivals even modern day cars in handling and agility. Other than a repaint in 1995 to the correct factory color, this Monza is an example of unrestored and original excellence. With just 52,000 original miles on the odometer the straight rust free body and original top are in excellent condition, complimented by a super clean interior free from rips, cracks or even grime. The original vinyl boot is in perfect condition and retains the protective foam for when the roof is folded.
Except for the clock, all gauges, lights, button and switches work as they should. Rated by Hagerty's valuation tool as a #2, this is a 5 foot car all day long. While not exactly concourse condition, the few minor imperfections that will only be known by you add character to the originality of this beautiful car.
The front mounted spare and trunk are 100% perfect with the original hounds-tooth trunk mat in place. The engine compartment with original fire-proofing still intact is spotless, free from rust, grime and even dust. Updates include 14" torque thrust wheels, new General tires and a Retro-Sound AM/FM/Aux radio with dual cone in-dash speaker. The original 13" wheels, 13" Monza hubcaps AND 13" GM wire hubcaps with spinners are preserved and will accompany the car to its new owner, as well as the original and working AM radio and in-dash speaker. Other new items include:
- Brakes
- Battery
- Fuel Pump
- Plugs & Wires
- Horn/Turn Signal Switch
Mechanically speaking, the 4x single-barrel carburetors were rebuilt about 4 years and still wear their original tags from the factory. Typical of some Corvairs, this example has no oil leaks and has never thrown a fan belt. The shocks and springs perform great with just the right amount of fun for crisp handling and quiet comfort for soaking up the bumps. The dual exhaust strikes just the right note of late sixties performance without being too loud.
Though the car is and has been garaged, a custom Corvair car cover plus a generic outdoor cover are included, as well as the original owners and convertible top manuals. Much of the original documentation is also included.
