1971 Corvette Stingray 454, 4 speed manual transmission, Air Conditioning, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Power windows, and all of it works. Comes with numbers matching original 454 removed at 67,000 miles and properly stored (no problems with it, just wanted to preserve it for later). Currently install engine is a 454 crate engine with 570 advertised horsepower. The crate engine only has about 6,000 miles on it.
Pending retirement forces the sale of my dream car.. It is well cared for and regularly driven. I have driven it 10,000 miles since I purchased it in May of 2009. It gains a lot of attention wherever it goes, and it is a dream to drive.
This is the perfect car for someone who wants to enjoy years of trouble free driving with a high performance engine, then put the original engine back in and sell it for BIG BUCKS. The currently installed crate engine has classic bad-boy rough idle and makes mountains of power. The original numbers matching engine was professionally removed and stored to preserve it. Everything removed during the engine swap was retained to make it easier to put the original engine back in when the time comes.
Upgrades:
1. Aftermarket aluminum radiator with twin electric fans. This keeps is cool even on the hottest days with the Air Conditioning on full blast. Original radiator, fan, and shroud come with the car so you can return it to original when the time comes.
2. Complete MSD ignition system with appropriate distributor to preserve mechanical drive tachometer.
3. High output alternator so electric fans do not tax electrical system The original alternator comes too.
4. Aftermarket high torque starter. The original starter comes too.
5. Complete manifold to rear new exhaust system retaining factory exhaust manifolds, and rectangular exhaust tips.
6. Front and rear suspension system rebuilt for great ride and drivability.
7. Factory brakes rebuilt.
Paint – Older high quality repaint still shows quite well. Steel cities grey However, it does have a couple of spots where paid is getting thin and a couple of small cracks in the paint (see pictures.)
Interior – looks to be original and accordingly shows some wear. However, quite serviceable for years to come. Seams in seat covers are starting to split and new seat covers will be needed soon.
Gauges- all gauges work, including clock. However, fuel gauge only goes down to ¼ tank and stops. The gauge works ok from full to ¼. So you just cannot tell how much fuel you have between ¼ tank and empty. (Likely sending unit needs to be adjusted).
Vacuum system- It all works, head lights, wiper door, etc.
Lights- they all work.
Fiber Optics- back works, front does not. Typically none of these work on this year of corvette.
Stereo appears to be an older “Corvette” replacement and sounds weak. Probably worn-out speakers, but I have never tried to fix it.
