1972 Chevrolet Corvette Description

This is a very nice, original, two owner Corvette with 54K original miles and full service history back to 1975 which confirms the solid maintenance of the car as well as the mileage. It has the original drive train and is a numbers matching car. It was bought new in 1972 by Herbert McClure from Jack Douglas Chevrolet in Hinsdale, IL. The dealer sticker still resides on the back of the car. It was sold by Herbert to his grandson in 1993 so it's a two owner car but has been in the same family since new. I acquired the car recently from the second owner. Its gray with black interior. It features air conditioning, power windows, power steering, automatic transmission, AM/FM stereo, power brakes, and T-tops. The interior is in near mint condition. The seats are almost perfect and the carpet looks new. There is a Kenwood aftermarket stereo installed but the original radio and amplifier come with the car and they are pictured with the service records and manuals. Everything on the car works as it should except the clock and the air conditioning. The original clock stopped working and the second owner had it replaced in 1993. The replacement doesn't seem to work either but we still have the original clock and it comes with the car. The second owner had a new A/C compressor installed in 2012 but it doesn't blow cold so it will need recharging. The brakes were recently done and the exhaust system has also been replaced and looks very good.
The 1972 Corvette was the last Corvette with chrome front bumper, removable rear window and hidden wipers. Most 72's you find will have the standard rally wheels but this one has the optional turbine hub caps which are rare and look very nice. The tires are about 10 years old but have less than 3K miles on them so they are in very nice condition. The service records are over an inch thick and some of the recent work that was performed on the car is as follows:
September 2012- $1,413.00 service included New AC system with R134 freon, replaced several belts and hoses, repaired the fan clutch, and several other small parts.
September 2014- $1,620.00 service including the following: Replaced heater core, replaced all heater hoses, rebuilt front brake calipers, bleed brakes, rebuild rear brakes, new brake pads, and multiple parts related to this service.
October 29, 2001- $3,103.00 service included the following: Tune up, distributor cap and rotor, strut rod bushings, new rear spring, new rear shocks, new front springs, tie rods and sleeves, alignment and several other small parts.
These are just a few of the receipts that indicate the quality of the service history. Although the interior is almost perfect, I would rate the exterior as a 7 out of 10. It needs to be buffed and has some nicks and scratches. Overall it's a great driver quality paint job but to make it perfect you would need to repaint it. I didn't want to do that because I like original, unrestored cars. I was only able to list with the number of photos above but if you want to see the car or have me take any additional photos of some of the nicks, I can send them under separate cover. The most significant scratches are in front of the rear wheel and I have a photo of that in the listing. The rest are more minor in nature. The chrome front bumper is perfect but the rear bumpers have some patina and should probably be re-chromed. The rear luggage rack is nice overall but the left, top corner has rust so it should also be re-chromed or replaced. The t-tops are in great shape and come with the original storage bags. The rear window is removable and the storage compartment for the rear window is operational and in good condition. The car comes with all the original books, records, service receipts, cover, battery tender, etc. It runs good but I think it can use a fresh tune up and new gas. It hesitates from time to time, especially before it warms up. If you are looking for a genuine, original, unrestored car with great history, this is a very nice car.
If you have any questions or want additional photos, please don't hesitate to ask. The car is listed for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the listing early. If you are serious, please make an offer but please don't waste time low balling. 10% of the selling price is due via wire transfer or paypal within 48 hours and the balance is due within a week of the sale via wire transfer or certified check. The buyer is also responsible for pickup and transport of the car. Thanks.
