Up for auction is our 1962 Chevrolet C10 small window fleetside shortbed truck. This truck originated out west. Its second owner restored it stock 21 years ago. We have a photo album showing much of the restoration. The mileage listed is the actual 47,500 miles on the truck and is reflected on the title, condition and previous owner testimony. The truck has been dry its entire life and garaged since restoration 99% of the time. We purchased the truck from the second owner who did the restoration and have freshened it up with new suspension, exhaust, upholstery and front disc brakes. It is being offered for sale with a realistic, real-world reserve and while it's not a 100 point show truck, it is in incredible shape overall. It runs and drives great and will make somebody a great cruiser.
DRIVETRAIN
The original 235 straight six runs great. We added a custom Dick's Hot Rod Carbs ribbed breather and air cleaner, as well as a stainless split header. The transmission is a later model synchronized three speed on the floor. The clutch is fresh. Speedworld in Lexington ran amazing dual straight pipes for the exhaust. Mufflers could be added easily, but we think the truck sounds awesome as it is. We finished the exhaust with period-correct flat stainless tips.
SUSPENSION / CHASSIS
The truck has original 6-lug steelies, nice skinny white walls and rare 9-inch moon caps. We had Speedworld in Lexington professionally install a very expensive McGaughey's drop spindle / front disc brake / rear lowering kit. All of this lowered the truck about 5 inches from factory ride height. It looks and rides amazing while still being functional. The frame and underside of this truck is rot free and in incredible shape. Cab mounts and floor pans in this shape are a rare find.
INTERIOR
The simple interior of this truck is in great shape. Its original steering wheel and gauges are in extremely nice condition. All of the glass is good. The windows roll up and down like they should. The door seals, windshield seals and back glass seals are new. The speedometer, gas gauge, dummy lights and heater work great. (This truck does need a headlight switch. We have ordered this part and intend to have it installed on the truck before the auction ends, but do not guarantee it.) We had Hensley Custom Auto Trim in Richmond, KY redo the bench seat in two-inch black pleats with white piping. The springs were rebuilt and new foam was installed as well. This seat is nicer than factory condition, has 0 miles on it and is beautiful. The factory radio delete is still installed on the vehicle. Included withthe truck is a 200-watt mp3 amp that can be mounted in the glove box, a good way to have modern music capabilities while still keeping with the original feel of the interior and not cutting the dash.
BODY
The body of this truck was repainted 21 years ago, the right way with complete disassembly in Winchester red. While not show quality, the paint has held up incredibly well. It has a minor scratch and chip here or there but looks great overall. With minor touch-ups and a light buffing, this paint job would almost look new. When the truck was repainted, the owner swapped the grille to a 64 model simply because he liked that look more, and the hood to a GMC hood as the original was dented. The only minor issue on the body is light bubbling / paint flaking on both lower front fenders just in front of the doors. At the time of repainting, this area had tiny pinholes and the previous owner stated that they did not braise them like they should have been done. This checking of the paint / bubbling is small, happened 5 years after the repaint and has not gotten any worse in the last 15 years as the truck has been garaged. We had Dolle Pinstriping, a well-known striper in our area, custom stripe the front of the hood and top of the tailgate for a little added style. We replaced the incorrect rear bumper with afactory reproduction 1962 style bumper. Overall, this truck is laser straight, has little to no filler in it and reflects its dry life and 47K mile status. The wood bed floor was replaced in oak 21 years ago at the time of the previous owner's restoration and is still in amazing shape, just as nice underneath as it is on top. This truck does not have the stainless strips between the wood. The painted factory strips have light chipping here and there.
