Since 1958, Chevrolet’s range-topping passenger car has been the Impala. Originally a trim level for the Bel Air, the Impala became a standalone model in 1959 with coupe, convertible, sedan and wagon body styles available to suit buyers needs. The horizontal fins were an iconic signature of the 1959 Impala, but by 1961, the era of the tail fin had passed and the Impala began to evolve into a new and sophisticated style. By the 1962 model year the Impala wore an all new body that unveiled the crisp and understated styling that was to be the signature of the remainder of the decade.

RB Collection is pleased to offer this very sharp and attractive1962 Chevrolet Impala 2-door sports coupe. This example is a very desirable model, equipped from the factory with the 300 horsepower 327 smallblock and floor-shift 4-speed manual transmission. It wears and older restoration that was executed to a very good standard and presents well with attractive paint, panel fit and detailing. Importantly, the body is very straight, showing no signs of major damage or major rust repair. The two-tone Roman Red and Ermine White paint is excellent, showing little in the way of wear or flaws. Nice straight reflections and crisp body lines show this is a very high quality restoration on a sound foundation. Exterior trim and brightwork is all in very good order with excellent chrome bumpers and bright body trim.

The red interior complements the exterior very well and presents in fantastic condition, restored with correct red vinyl trim with proper striped inserts. Door and quarter panels are excellent and the dash appears to be in outstanding original condition, with just the addition of a period appropriate Sun tachometer being the only modification. There are no rips or tears in the upholstery, and the car has been upgraded with a set of matching red seatbelts with chrome buckles. According to the data tag, this is a genuine 4-speed/bench seat car with and the original AM radio is still in place.

Since acquiring it, we’ve had a great time driving this car, and it rewards with excellent performance. We believe this car to have a numbers matching drivetrain, with properly date coded transmission and engine. The 327 runs strong and the transmission shifts very well through an aftermarket Hurst shifter. Original spec includes manual brakes and steering, both of which work very well – the steering lightening up once on the move and returning a very pleasing road feel. Engine detailing is executed to a high level with largely correct fittings, finishes and details. The chassis and undercarriage are in very good order as well; clean, tidy and solid with no corrosion. The X-Frame chassis has been fully painted and remains in excellent condition.

It is rare to find such a straight and tidy ‘62 Impala with the original drivetrain intact. This example is a real joy to drive and yet it remains nice enough for casual show and cruise nights. It has seen very limited use in the last decade and has been thoroughly inspected by our in-house experts, making it ready for regular enjoyment. The sale includes a full car cover, a pair of original fender skirts, and a reproduction owner’s manual.
