1978 Malibu street and strip fresh engine trans rear end. + extras drag race
1978 Chevrolet Malibu 2 door Description
I have a 78 Malibu that is a real fun street and strip car. I will break down the car by sections for easy review
Engine--350 Chevy with a new cast crank and stock rods with good rod bolts. Keith black flat top pistons. Hydraulic camshaft with double roller chain-Double hump heads (194) Victor jr intake-Holley double pumper-large filter. MSD ignition does not come with the car I will install a HEI in place of it. Dual electric fans also included mounted in front of factory fan.
Trans is a rebuilt 350 turbo with shift kit-new 10inch converter. It was rated at 2800. New B+M ratchet shifter. Converter and shifter over $600.
Rear end -original rear end with new eaton posi unit and 410 gears with sway bar.
Wheels- new rally wheels with 67 center caps. These are aftermarket-fronts are 15x3 and the rears are 15x8. Front tires are like new rear tires show wear. Also the car comes with 2 GM rally wheels with MT 28x10.5 slicks. Car pics with slicks will add pics of street tires soon.
Extra parts not installed- Fuel safe fuel cell-Holley electric fuel pump-large Russel fuel filter-5 point cam lock belts-
Interior- dash in decent shape-Nice stereo with 2 6x9 speakers9sounds good) seats decent but worn-headliner down-carpet was died black by previous owner-looks bad but i have nice black carpet taken out od Chevelle to put in. Auto meter gauges with shift light. Aftermarket steering wheel.
Body- Good solid body except the passinger floor has poor patch and the passing rocker has rust hole( I have the replacement panel for iti its in the box in the back seat) a peice of steel welded in behind passinger rear tire with bondo. Passinger quarter needs work. Trunk is nice and solid.
Performance- I took it to Muncie Dragway last fall and it ran upper 13's. It ran great except for to issues. 1) The shifter that was in the car was not adjusted correctly so I left it in drive and let the car shift its self-around 5300. I have over the winter corrected this with a new B+M shifter. Also this was with a 12 inch converter. I had to stage the car at 1200 rpm. With the new converter I can hold the car with the foot brake at 2100 rpm. The car leaves much harder now. With these two improvements that cost over $600 the car should go low 13's easy. The other issue was it threw the alt belt. A new alt bracket should solve this issue.
Again a reminder the MSD ignition does not come with the car you will get it with a HEI. If you want the MSD you will have to add $400.
Car is located in Northern Indiana about 1 hour north of Indy. Please call 765 206 0350 with questions. Delivery maybe available up to 200 miles 1 way at a buck a loaded mile but you must call first. thanks. steve
